3000 mile driving Holiday round Europe

Part 1.

The Route:

2865 miles, 8 countries, 26.4 mpg and a burnt head.
F**king awesome.
Day 1 was a hard drive, 600-odd miles to Wiesen, a little town just south of Davos, Switzerand. Great view out of our Hotel window:

..if a little cold...actually bl**dy freezing!

The next morning as we headed out of Davos, towards Stelvio, and the one thing we weren't expecting was this:

Once we'd got over the peaks and started heading down again, the view got better. You really can't appreciate the scale from pics:

The bottom of the Stelvio pass from the Italian was cold and wet and probably safer to go up than down, especially as my Wife was in a little discomfort from yesterday's long drive - and had had open surgery 3 weeks previously, so no arse-out antics, but you do get a strange compulsion to want to drive straight off into the clouds

First Video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jur0RW6JIqw

And a view from around 2/3 the way up (6500 feet)

The other side was better: Drier, smoother and even brighter, with even more dramatic scenery and drops. Will post the vid later.

Thanks ...it got better

Once we'd reached the top the view on the other other side was much, much better. About a third of the way down, there was a fork in the road and rather than bear left (away from the summit and further into Italy) I turned right so in effect heading back round the Mountain to where we;'d started...and so so glad I did. 20 minutes of relentless downhill hairpins, awesome curves, sheer drops and smooth tarmac...apart from the sudden appearance of a Rally Stage! Enjoy:

Very similar route to one I was thinking of doing, but not sure I can stomach the petrol costs. May I ask what the petrol side of things set you back?

Loving the look you have on your Box by the way.

Thanks

I was running 98RON which averaged 1.55 Euro per litre at Motorway Service stations. So fuel costs were 490 litres - 759 Euro - £640. Coming off the Motorway where I could, the average price per litre of Super Unleaded dropped to 1.38/l - which would have saved 85 Euro on the whole trip!

For our US friends, that's just over $7.60 a Gallon
