Should I go for edge or stick with Syntec?
Did anyone tried it or know anything about it?
Thanks

I think it's just a marketing gimmick, basically same product new name.

Actually, no, Edge is a distinct product with completely different ratings than Syntec; and is currently available only in a couple of weights that are not usable in a Porsche. Castrol also has a “Pro Edge” product line in more compatible weights, currently unavailable in North America, that is getting very favorable reviews overseas…………

This thread is a year old, and it looks like Castrol is rebranding stuff.
It appears Castrol Syntec is now Castrol Edge with Syntec.
www.castrol.com has all the details.
They even say the 5w-50 has zinc for older cars.

Both product lines continue to exist, name modification not withstanding. One of the major differences between the old Syntec (now Edge with Syntec technology) and the Edge (now with titanium technology) is the weight grades offered and type of ACEA ratings the different lines offer. The Edge with Syntec offers ACEA A3, B3, B4 ratings in weights suitable for Porsche applications; the Edge with titanium does not offer either.

I have no idea what I bought the other day then. I haven't put it in, but I'm pretty sure I bought some of this "edge" stuff the other day @ $31.99 for 5qts and get a free filter from Advance Auto. I bought it in 10W40 for sure. It said Full Synthetic and even said "formally Syntec" It comes in a black container. I guess I'll have to look at it a little closer, but I was assuming I would be ok to use it.... Think I shouldn't?
Of course they didn't have the filter I needed so I just had to get them for my other vehicles.
