I ditched my BMW 335 for the Boxster. The high pressure fuel pump is a big issue. A flaw that is likely to leave you stranded. But give BMW credit for recognizing the issue, extending the warranty on the flawed part and re-designing the engine (they moved to a different design after only 2/3 years). No doubt these moves were necessitated by the line of dead 335's waiting for their new HPFP to come in...


BMW dealers are rated by BMW USA by how well their customers "grade" them on the post service survey. I found it absolutely obnoxious to be pressured into giving the dealers high grades for service. Frankly, I didn't even like the constant follow-up calls. That's one of the reasons I'm done with BMW.


I'm comfortable with an out of warranty Boxster (now serviced by a local Indy) as my daily driver -- but I wouldn't touch an out of warranty BMW 335.
