I just experienced a similar problem. In my case it was a broken clutch hydaulic line. Clutch was fine and in my case the clutch pedal remained completely depressed. If your clutch pedal completely retracts other things to check would be the master or slave cylinders or the clutch. It took a bit a time for me to get the right parts to fix the broken clutch hydraulic line however I'm absolutely amazed how much better my clutch works once it was flushed and bled.
