Update for Post #93 from 11/26/2011:

The engine lasted until 146,000 miles and 85 track days with over 20,000 shifts at redline (and a couple of downshifts that were slightly above redline!!). Original IMS. Final failure was a broken valve lifter.

Do you worry about taking your engine to redline once a week? I did it 5 times per lap x 12 laps per session x 4 sessions per track day x 85 track days. And then, it finally broke.

Tom, what did you do for a new engine when it finally died?

A salvage engine or a custom rebuilt.

I'm guessing since you are running stock class, it was a salvage engine?

I'm still only at ~75k miles so still a young engine.

I has a custom rebuilt engine put together for over $15K and it failed on the first lap. The shop rebuilt it at no cost and it failed again during the first track session. Then the shop refused to rebuild it again at no cost so I was out $15K (no warranties on track engines and they didn't care about me as a customer).

Then I bought a salvage engine from a Tip Boxster with 92K miles for $1800 and had it installed for $2200. Its been running great all year without any problems. It was recently dyno'd at 196rwhp which is pretty strong. I wanted a Tip because I felt that an engine from a car with an auto trans was probably never revved very hard.
