run flat tires
Hi,
does anyone know if I can put run flat tires (I am thinking of Bridgestone Potenza 050 RFT) on my standard Turbo Twist (2002) rims?
Any disadvantages to run flat tires that anyone knows of?
I have dedicated track tires on a second set of rims, so I don't care so much about "handling under extreme conditions"

I can only hazard a guess on ques #1, but I'd think you'd be able to run them. The good folks at TireRack would be able to give you a definitive answer.
As far as ques #2, you will have reduced handling capabilities, a harsher ride, and possibly more noise with run-flats. The sidewall is stiffer than a conventional tire so it can handle the rigors of running with no air. A stiffer sidewall will create all the items I mention. Are the side effects worth it? I wouldn't think so, but that's JMHO. It's your car.

I drove a Z4 with Bridgestone run flats and thought they were awful. Felt like wagon wheels.

x2 i had runflats on my vette and dumped them fast. very hard, rough ride.

While you can mount them no problem, they should only be mounted in conjunction with a tire pressure monitoring system. It is almost impossible to tell when a run flat is low on air, so unless you're going to check them each time you get in the car, it is wise to install such a system.
As to performance, you'll notice a much firmer ride. Personally, I wouldn't bother.

x3 - I have them on my wife's Lexus and can't wait to get rid of them - looks like less than 5K to go.
hard, noisy, rough ride, poor handling - other than that the are great

I've had a flat on the rear of my 01 twice and have not noticed it until I stopped for fuel (Pzeros). Anyone know of a tire pressure monitior that can be retrofitted?

My wife's minivan (Toyota Sienna) is the AWD with run flats and I hate them.
1.) You have to keep them at max pressure
2.) At low speeds they are noisy and sound like the tire is rubbing
just plain not worth it in my opinion.

I bought the "Orange" tire monitors and they work great so far 
Have a reading for both pressure and temperature and you can set low and high thresholds for PSI for warning sound
