Does this make up for my being such a hard nose on the political threads?
See, we conservatives aren't all that mean!

I wuz gonna try to match/exceed his posting numbers, but then I did the math and decided eating and sleeping would not be part of my life.
And I do not type all that fast.
Our prayers are with Randall and all the Texans and Louisianans that got Ike'd.

Randall is doing fine. We got a text message from him while at the Dragon. They have a couple of small leaks and minor drywall damage and no power. All in all they fared well.

Randall checked in on the hurricane Ike thread over in the lounge. He's doing okay and they got their power back on, so the fish and coral should make it. He has minor damage, but a huge mess all over Houston.

Ike's gettin' to us all. Here in Ohio, we got hit by some hurricane residue: Sunday night we had no rain, but a wind storm with gusts that I'm guessin' were in the 60-70 mph range. Some pretty good sized trees were bent over at almost a 90 degree angle. Took out a lot of power lines, including the source for our home. (I heard a million homes were affected.)
A call to the power company: Their recorded message indicated our power would be restored by "late Friday"!!
The bad part for me: I had same day surgery on Monday. Now I'm sitting around recuperating in a house with no computer, no TV/DVD/music etc, no stove/microwave, food warming in the fridges/thawing in the freezer, etc. It's kind of a mess.
We did get dry ice to more or less keep perishables cool/cold, and I do have a battery powered AM/FM radio, so (relative to many) I guess I don't have it so bad. (I'm posting this from a local library---HAD to check my email!)
Anyway, best wishes for a speedy recovery to all those affected by Ike.

All of us in hurricane land don't consider that even the remnants can be serious for areas not used to getting the full hit of the storms. After the long, cold (global warming, my ass) winter, the late fast thaw and very wet spring and summer, something like Ike coming through the midwest was the last thing you guys needed. For all the hype of the GW crowd, real climatologists explain the differential between hot and cold is what causes radical weather. Warming would settle it down, not make it worse.

Gee, and we only had 6 to 8" of rain over the weekend here in Chicagoland...my house sits high on a hill, but many were not so lucky. Hope all those affected by Ike are OK and lives get back to normal (if there is such a thing).
