Value of boxster with blown motor??

i'm considering buying my dad's car.

it is a 2000 base model with 73k.
18" wheels
M030 suspension
full leather
ocean blue / black leather
heated seats
cruise

He is going to sell it to me for 11000-12000. no sales tax as it is an inter family transfer in CA.

worst case scenario - I buy it. I drive it down the street and the motor blows up. I get a $14k-15k bill to fix it and decide to cut my losses and chalk it up as a lesson learned and sell it as is - blown motor.

how much will I get for it?

I"m trying to figure out - given the "great" deal I'm getting - how F***ing far in the hole I would be if I just dumped it in that condition???

not that I am in any way planning on this to happen - i'm just anticipating every scenario.

i can always just keep in the garage while I save up for the 3.4L swap if that happens... it's just that I might be saving for YEARS....
