I don't know , somethings wrong here. I just looked my cap is BLUE but ends in 01. 01 should mean its the new part number , but above it says the new one is black. Well it looks like I have the new one ending in 01 but its BLUE. My is a 01 S with 47k miles, hard to believe I coulda made it 47k miles on a defictive cap that leaks. So maybe the new ones end in 01 but are BLUE?

i just replaced my old blue coolant cap, part number ending 00 with a black one, part number ending 01. I think the part number is more important than the color of the cap. You may want to call dealer to verify part number. I have an 2002 base boxster. My old cap was working fine but I replaced it as a precaution. Cost is $17 which is cheap insurance rather than trying to hassle with it unexpectedly later.

I am trying to figure out the black cap.

Where did you get the black cap from. If you got it from Porsche did it come in a plastic bag with a part number on it - if so what is the full part number.

Compared my old blue 00 cap with my new black 01 cap. Old 00 internals show a obvious round topped cylinder with a screened top when held up side down. New 01 internals also have a simular round top cylinder with screen top but also includes an elongated cylinder that envelopes and extends beyond the rounded part of the inner cylinder. Sorry, that's the best way I could describe it. Color may only be a difference in the manufacturer. My black 01 cap does not have a Porsche # on the outside like my blue original 00. I believe both are made by the company named "Blau" as they both have a similar insignia.

My "new" cap is blue too. Ends in 01. Hope that helps

Part number should overide color
