Hard Top

Hello Forum,

Which hard-top modifications do I need to make to the interior of the car to be able to attach a HardTop ?

Will a hard-top greatly improve the car for winter-use ?

Kind regards
Morten

You need to get and install the spinlocks. You can get them at Suncoast Porsche or your local dealer. I got mine at Suncoast. There is a great install guide on renntech here:

Make sure you look at the photos carefully and that you don't put them in upside down.

It will make a big difference in the winter plus the car will be a lot quieter.

Good luch with it. Take your time and don't get frustrated. It's a faily easy job.

Hard-top will make the car actually pretty good in the winter, considering you are able to drive it in the winter. It quietens the car considerable, and with the quality heaters that all boxsters have its quite comfortable. The rear defroster is nice too!

And to add to what has been said, I think it looks great.

If you are going to buy a hardtop consider these as well if you have some extra $$$.

Are the spinlocks an additional safety feature or are they required for any use of the hardtop?

ie - Could one drive the car to the dealer with the top on without them installed in order to get them installed?

It might be OK at low speeds. Without the spinlocks, the top would only be secured at one point on the top header. The two rear attachments would just be sitting loose in the rear brackets.

I don't see why you would need to take the hard top with you to the dealer for installation of the spinlocks. If you don't want to do it yourself (I did mine and it is not that hard) you could take the car to the dealer without the top. You might need to make a second trip to the dealer later to have the top adjusted. I would rather endure the inconvenience of two trips than risk damaging my hard top.

I find the hard top also helpful when it's too hot to put the soft top down... I never thought I'd use the hard top... just a bonus with my car, but I ended up loving it. It's like owning two diff. Porsches in one!
