This is the VDO temperature sensor I used, it is M14x1.5, so I can confirm the thread is M14x1.5.

I don't think I have a photo, but look at this DIY for adding the 996 console and oil pressure sensor to possibly see some photos (or I don't know if you have looked down there already). I "think" there is room, I couldn't tell from the eBay page how tall that adapter is.
