AWESOME POST, i really really wanted some instruction on the power slide, now to find a legal place to practice that. I hope my non-S boxster has enough power to do the power slide.

Dude... Do tell, im a PM if u must, After watching the vid, I didnt go try donuts or power sliding in the streets, but i did try to dump the clutch in 1st to spin the tires. BTW i have new Nexen 3000 z rated tires and it was kick ass, tires spun, they were very quiet and the car got alittle sideways the traction didnt catch until the vehicle speed matched 5k rpms and then rocketed away, It was a thing of beauty, I had Bridgestones before and it think they were too grippy cause the tires bounced, I think thats what your experiencing, too much grip, not enough slip. Also, the tire spin was done at the same stop sign, the same lane as the bouncy tires i use to have.

Honestly, I could be missing something, but I don't see why anyone would want to do what this guy did with the car. I don't know much about fastest lap times, but in whatever track driving I've done and observed, the fastest cars do very little (if any) sliding or abuse in general. Their driving is actually the smoothest and least abusive to their cars.

I have a feeling that all this slipping and sliding that's prevalent in these "review" videos (tons of them online) and in car magazines is either just for show (a lot of flash with no substance) and/or being sponsored by every tire producer in the world. Just like tobacco companies pushing "cool" smoking to kids. I bet the Michelin guy watching all this "tire painting" was having much more fun than the driver. That is, if being jarred and thrown left and right in the drivers seat (during the 360 stunt) could be descibed as "fun".

Sorry to be raining on the parade. Just an opinion.

This type of driving is too much fun to explain in words (except for the donuts, which make me barf), but IMO it should be reserved for rental cars and government issued vehicles only.

Yes, I have slid a car -- both intentionally and not. Don't enjoy it much. Both in skiing and driving, I prefer (and enjoy) going fast while minimizing sliding. Can't see why anyone would do it on purpose just for its own sake. Quality of tires is measured in amount of grip that they offer -- and not in their propensity to slide. Quality (sharpness) of ski's edges is also measured by how much they MINIMIZE sliding while turning at speed. But hey, I also don't understand why a bunch of people would run in front of bulls trough narrow streets and call that fun. As I said, different strokes for different folks. It'd be a boring world if we all liked the same things.

Its ok Z, you just arent as fun loving as some of us, Im sure you are fun in other ways, just not this one. What active hobby do you do that you actually have fun doing and dont have try to accomplish with perfection???

While probably no match to your funlovingness, in my free time I enjoy smoking crack. On Friday evenings I like to combine it with banging my head three times against a wall. And you're right, it's much more fun when I don't nail the latter perfectly. :)

Does this do any damage to the car?

It's hell on the tires with every single slide and hard on the suspension if done a lot.

Tiff drives very expensive cars he does not own and never has to personally pay for when he burns tires off them or wrecks them.

Never forget that.

I still love watching him thrash cars around a track though. I live vicariously through him, and keep my Michelins from spinning because I have to pay big bucks to replace them and well, I choose not to do that more often than is necessary.

Which explains why Mr Bibendum was clapping in the video. How many "Why are my tires worn?" posts are we gonna see in a few weeks? Days, maybe?
