I also added a hardtop this fall -- local dealership was selling used tops for $499, so I couldn't pass that deal up.

I think you'll like it. Changes the lines of the car & makes it much quieter and coupe-like inside.

As far as storage goes... I built a hoist using some wood, pipe insulation, pulleys, sheet metal, rubber pads, and rope purchased at Home Depot. Now I can lift the top on & off by myself and when not in use it hangs out of harm's way. If you are interested in doing the same, let me know and I can snap some pics. It's nothing fancy, but it works.

Cool Hard top

Hey Lucky guy,
you mind telling me which local dealership you bought your hard top from?
I have a sister that lives in Virginia might ask her to pick one up for me...
you can just pm me, if you wish.
thanks very much for you time..

I'm a bit curious about hard tops on a Boxster. I've always liked the look, and kinda wanted one, but I wonder about the installation and how it affects the existing soft top. How does that work?

What steps are taken to install / remove the hardtop?

Presumably, the soft top stays installed, and lowered? Are there any risks of long-term damage or creases developing by keeping the soft top lowered for an entire winter?
