Newbie from down under

Hey guys! I have been a porsche fan as long as I can remember and finally ,I was able to get myself a 2001 Boxster 2.7. My ultimate dream is a 911 but that would have to wait. I can say that I have been dreaming driving a porsche for a long time and the first time I drove this care exceeded my expectation. It is really a dream come true .Cheers.

Be careful what you dream for. You might find out that, like many of us, the Boxster is the real dream car. Welcome, Ed

Welcome to another Aussie. You are obviously based in Sydney.
Did you follow the Old Pacific Highway out of Hornsby to Gosford?
We did that drive two weeks ago.

Hey Pinarelloman, Yeah I'm from Parramatta and the route I took was penant hills then on to F3 and then exited at Mooney Mooney where I took the shots. Do you guys have regular track days? I am keen to do tracks, time permitting. Cheers

Hi ermed911, a very clean car there!

Can you tell me how long/hard you had to search for what you were after?
Our local prices are so much higher than the US, it hurts!

$30k AUD seems to be entry level, with a few exceptions for high mileage or suspect cars (maybe $35-40k for 2.7 & entry level S?).

I ended up with a VW instead but still dream of a Boxster for the future.

A few of us VW owners (and a former owner with a silver Cayman S!) drive in Sydney's Kuringai Chase NP; check out the GTG subforum in the Australia forum of GolfMkV.com:
(pics & details if you are interested in joining the forum & the run)

Congrats and enjoy the ride!

[PS If you are in ER Medicine, I can see why you chose four wheels over two! Quite a few people in that field are in the VW group, too.]

I had been watching prices for a while (12 months). The prices seemed to be fairly stable & were more or less dictated by mileage of the vehicles & service history.
We only ever drove two vehicles, both were S models of 2001 vintage with 60,00-70,000km.
My vehicle has full service history & 5 owners. I was lucky enough the vehicle was due the 60K service & I paid for this prior to the purchase. This also gave me all the current & previous faults & any repairs that were required.
Porsche told me the clutch needed replacing, front & rear suspension arms noisy & front engine mount badly torn. Quote $5500 for all repairs.
I re negotiated the purchase price $2500 down. Final price $46,500.
None of the claimed faults have raised their heads. The local wheel aligner who races a 911 says the clutch is fine & there is nothing wrong with the suspension arms. The engine mount has a 10mm tear & I will leave that till it gets noisy.

I do not intend to track the car. It is a weekend driver only.
Here is what I ended up with.

Hi Bizi. It took me all of 3 months to finally own my first P car. I am the 2nd owner. With full service history and 93k on the clock. Cost me 40 K. Had some minor snag on the sale but it is all sorted out. I agree that the US prices are far more friendlier than ours and it really sucks.
Your group looks like a happy bunch and would love to join in one of your fun runs.
Cheers
