Gotta admit I'm quite jealous. Wife won't let me go in debt on a new one. So, I'll just downshift a lot in my 1997 to get over that yukky feeling.

break in period?
I heard that as long as the engine is fully warm you should have no problem running as hard as you want. I heard this actually promotes break-in and gives your engine better longevity. Check www.mototuneusa.com I have used thier power break in with all my motorcycles. Just be sure to change your oil at 100, then 500. You should be cool from there. BTW, your boxster is BEAUTIFUL!

I don' recall that Porsche has a break in specified in the owners manual.
Nor would they specifiy the oil change routine you suggest, which is sometimes done for motorcycles by fanatics such as myself. 
They do fill the engine with Mobil 1 at factory and expect you do do same.
Of course, always allow your engine to be a full operating temp before you hammer it. Otherwise, just drive like a regular car.

Well, the salesman told me the break in period is the first 3k miles, according to the owners manual it's the first 2k miles. I'm sticking with what the owners manual says because I figure it's wiser than the salesman.
I've opened her up a bit, but I usually try to hang below 4k RPM's until I'm past the break in.
The owners manual also says that the car will burn oil faster during the break in, which I've noticed to be true. I've put a couple of quarts in and am around 1.4k miles.
Thanks for the compliments and the advice! I'm really loving this car, it's a huge change from the Dodge Stratus I owned before.

Yeah, that is correct. My owners manual says avoid exceeding 4,200 rpm for the first 2k miles. Of course your not going to hurt anything if you exceed that once in while, just don't drive sustained high rpm for the first 2k and everything should be fine.

I've just ordered a new S, Build date in April, May delivery(is it almost May yet?) It's only been a little over a week that it's been ordered and all ready I'm going nuts will have to make the '99 do.

Yes, break-in.
Yes, trust the manual over the sales people. When I was leaving the dealership after the sale, the salesman leaned in and said "Don, no break-in period" with a wink and a smile... well I took him at his word and had some fun on the way home. Imagine my thoughts after reading the manual that night and finding the information on the break-in period!

Should I trust my owners manual?
The page that labels all the inerior parts is so wrong. It shows the e-brake as the horn, the trunk release as the spoiler switch, and everything else is wrong.
Is everyone else's the same?
