Fuel pump electrical burning?

There has been an electrical burning smell in my 01 base boxster lately and couldn't really pinpoint it and thought that it was the stereo as there have been a couple of stereo pro's in there lately...

LOL no way! It is an electronic gauge just wires running into the cockpit. I was thinking about taking it somewhere to have it verified to see if it's the gauge/sensor unit or if it's something else....
