I have done this, plus I placed tips on mine, the tips did not come out perfect but the sound is so good I will leave it just like it is.

97 and 98 dont have 2 sets of cats, just one, so only 2 cats.
therefore no need for cat bypass for those models.

Djomlas is right. They didn't start with the extra set of CATs until MY 2000
