Exhaust?

I'm looking for the deepest, throatiest, sounding exhaust. What would that be?

Unfortunately someone chose my car for vandalism and keyed it. It's been in the shop for a week or so now and I've got a loner 993 w/an aftermarket exhaust. I love the sound of it. It resonates in the interior and I like it, the owner of the car hates it, different strokes for different folks.

Anyway I want my 986 to sound mean, any suggestions on exhaust? Fabspeed? Borla? Dansk? B&B? Remus? ???

This will be easier. If this doesn't make it any louder, nothing will.

GOD DAMN!!!! $495 for $8 worth of materials and 1 hour on a mandrel bender and tig welder. I mean cause we drive Porsche's that doesnt mean we are idiots.... ****************************s maybe at times, but not idiots ;)

JAAY 03-06-2007 07:00 AM

Get some nice headers and a good exhaust and it will sound great, make some power and not sound like a Ricers car. I have S-Car-Go headers and Mille Migla exhaust. Trust me it is plenty loud enough.

Though they are quite expensive, my Supersprint sounds sooooooooo sweet. Esp when I added the intake. The combo of the two sounds is just SHWING!!!!!! Keep an eye out and you can get a smokin' deal on one.

Lets see, gives 9 more hp, and makes the car 30 pounds lighter. Definately worth the money if you can't build it yourself. It's still street legal and removes the secondary set of cats. Ever heard a car with the cats removed? VERY LOUD! I just thought it was a easier alternative compared to the first post with the bi-pass valve video.

CJ_Boxster 03-06-2007 07:43 AM

true, less wait and 9 hp count for something. Do 1997's have 4 cats? when i was under the car i didnt see but only 1 cat per side. If i have 4 cats total, i can have some little mexican muffler shop do it for 50 bucks.

As far as I know, yes. All of them have 2 sets = 4 cats. Stupid and no reason for 4 sets. Two are built onto the headers and 2 after just before the mufler(the ones you can easily see). If you use some shop to get rid of the 2 before the exhuast/mufler, then you still will need the bung-hole for the sensors to go in. How are they going to do that? That's why I posted that link. It has holes(one for each pipe) made to hold the factory sensor, making it still street legal and able to pass emitions.

denverpete 03-06-2007 08:32 AM

I think you should go for this - nice and loud and fits in with the Civic crowd...

hmmm whatever will do i, im curling up into fetal posistion cause i know not what to do........ oh wait, i can buy 2 anti-foulers from autozone for 5 bucks, have the shop drill a hole in the new pipe and screw in then weld the anti-fouler/o2 bung-hole... its not rocket science. ;)

I agree that these parts are completely over priced. If you are going to have a shop make an alternative for cheaper than you might want to see if others on the forums are interested and perhaps work out a group deal. I think there were people here who were interested in the bypass pipes if they could get them for 200 or so. Just a thought.

I really like the sound of a Tubi exhaust, but they only make it for the 987, not the 986. It sounds so Ferrari like...

I have the GHL race exhaust (essentially straight pipes) on my S and I love it. Girlfriend has differing thoughts lol. Its quite loud, def sounds like a track car (I also have all factory cats on still). Interior resonance is decently bad between about 2200 and 2800, so I just avoid that range.

HOLY ****************.

WHERE DO I BUY ONE OF THOSE??????

THAT IS FERRARI-ESQUE.

Listen to the intro on this site...

http://www.millemiglia.com.au/

You can also listen to the sounds of all their exhaust systems :)

Anyone want their Boxster to sound like that????

[QUOTE=Bavarian Motorist]HOLY ****************.

That's because Tubi makes the exhaust for Ferrari. Lol. You can buy them from Champion Motorsports in Florida, but it's expensive.... I think it's like $2500. Awesome sound though...way it should be coming from the factory, imo.

Bavarian Motorist 03-07-2007 06:05 AM

I'd gladly pay an extra 2k for this option.

That was amazing. I keep listening to it over and over.

Probably would sound like crap on my base 987 :(

Boxtaboy 03-07-2007 06:07 AM

I think it would sound good on your base as well. Prob is the high price. Maybe you could get them to sell to you for a discount. Worth a try. With that exhaust, you'd hold your own next to a Ferrari in the street. LOL

Are you leasing your car? I'm not sure you would want to modify anything on a leased car, you will just end up wasting allot of money when you return it in the end.

I am leasing it. I figure if I mod it to my likings, I will just buy it after the lease is up.

Know what I mean?

But in all likelihood, that won't happen. I have the lease for 36months. Might as well enjoy it :)

Whether I buy or lease, I am gonna be losing the same amount of $$

Tubi exhausts are sweet, though that video you linked to is of the kreis-sieg exhaust... Kreis-sieg exhausts are amazing. Their 987 exhaust setup is $5500!

RandallNeighbour 03-07-2007 02:15 PM

The 97 boxster has one set of cats... not two.

I have Deluboz' headers and muffler on my 97 and it's plenty loud. Sizeable resonance at 2-3k though... but I got used to it with the top up. Top down it's just glorious all the way through the powerband and quiet as a mouse on the freeway with the cruise control set. Deluboz's muffler is really light compared to stock and much cooler... my rear trunk is no longer a rolling pizza warming unit.

BTW, I'm learning that all twin chamber mufflers create the resonance issues I have now.

Interesting point. The 987 model OEM units use double can muffler's too, however, and they don't have resonance, and the Dansk sausage type muffler and B&B muffler, while single can, still also produce resonance. I'm thinking that maybe it's not to do with the number of chambers, but the design of the interior baffles, that determines the level of resonance.

Cloudsurfer 03-10-2007 10:34 PM

Unfortunately I have the resonance as well, and really wish I didnt. Its liveable if you learn to simply avoid the 2200-2800 RPM area in my case, but I wish I didnt have to. I'm planning to do headers and secondary cat deletes down the road, and when I do so I am searching for an exhaust that does not resonate, whichever that may be.

Houston C4S 03-11-2007 10:24 AM

I don't think it's available yet from Porsche as
a Tequipment item, but when it is, the factory
sport exhaust is just what most of you are looking
for. At least for the 987s.

No resonance points, deep and growly at low RPM,
Ferrari-esque at hight rpm.

Not too loud, at least if you keep the ol' right foot
off the floor.

Simply perfect.

And you can just forget the switching stuff. Full
time loud mode is just right.

As soon as he hears (and drives) it, Randall will
be able to attest to this.

Oh my.

I may have to go for a drive.

Let's see now...

73 degrees, sunny, low humidity, birds a'chirpin',
bugs not too bad (yet), leaves poppin' out (mostly
weeds in my yard, though).

Hmm. Sounds like great Boxstering weather to me!

Best,

- Mark

yellowbox 03-13-2007 11:08 AM

For the best sound under $1k, I recommend GHL. You get what you paid for, so the quality is only so-so, all GHL exhausts suffer from broken mounting studs.

I have a cargraphic exhaust now, not as loud as GHL, no resonance though if that's what u like. GHL has plenty of resonance for u from 2 to 3k rpm.

The Tubi sounds nice, but GHL is almost as nice.

damn that sounds good :D I have the dansk sport muffler and it does not sound that good...did you notice it get louder when you put on the bypass cats? was there a noticeable gain? is it still smog legal? sorry for all the questions, but i have been thinking about that as my next mod :)

Adam 03-20-2007 08:59 PM

If you want loud, the GHL is probably one of the loudest widely available systems out on the market. You sound like a good candidate for the GHL.

nastyboxster 03-20-2007 09:41 PM

Ray986s

It is sightly louder with the bypass pipes, but not much more since it was pretty loud already. The pipes did not pass emissions here in Vancouver, so I had to put the cats back on for the test. Luckily it's easy bolt on and only every 2nd year.

If you search my post, I have dyno test with all the bolt on, but I didn't dyno the car at stock.

I did notice some gains from the pipes when I first install it, but I'm so use to it now that I don't notice it.

LuisR 03-22-2007 12:54 PM

has anybody checked these exhaust. these are the OEM exhaust with 1" bypass pipes. these are in Europe but I am thinking on modifying mine. What do you think.

look for the link to hear clip of the exhaust.
