Catalytic converter

Hello- new member here. I can do some basic mechanical work but am no master mechanic! New to me is a 2004 Boxster S 550 Spyder. Drives very nicely but has a bad rattle which Ive determined is likely coming from the Cats. Sounds like there are loose thin metal plates vibrating in both of them, If I thump them with my fist they reverberate. I was wondering what advice you folks might have. They are quite pricey from the main vendors. I saw this ad for Design Tek that was a lot less. What thoughts can you share?

Are you sure it's from the cats? Could it possibly be the heat shields? They tend to rust a bit and rattle.

Pretty sure, unless their not visible. I’ll look again though, and try to get above the cats etc.

I went back and poked around some more and you’re right! I don’t have the car on jacks so I its hard to reach but i found them. I had the car inspected before I purchased it and the mechanic noted the rattle but didnt know where it came from. So, how do you secure them. Anyone have a easy way to do it? Thanks again!

That's good news. They're a lot cheaper to replace. Otherwise you could just remove them. That seems to be a popular solution as well.

I have seen people on the forum just use metal straps (the kind you screw to tighten). A nice easy fix.
