Please forgive me if there is a newbie intro section I couldn't find.

Anyway, a quick little question.

Suppose you bought a car like this on:

Well......maybe exactly like that one

And you have zero records and 36k miles.

What immediate service/maintenance would you do to it?

I would do the whole 60k tune-up ahead of time. Its actually pretty easy minus the tranny fluid change. If you have any expierence working on cars,you can get it done.

Great looking car ! Congratulations and welcome to the forum !

I would bring the car in for the 30k mile service and have them give it a once over.

I assume you did not get a chance to do a PPI ( pre purchase inspection ) before you bought the car ? You may want to inquire if they could do that with your 30k just to be on the safe side. Regarding cost, the 30k cost me $770 earlier this year at the dealer, not sure how much a PPI would cost...

Service intervals are oil change every 7.5k and service every 15k.

If you did not get a PPI (Porsche Pre-Inspection I think) before you purchased it (which I am guilty of as well). Bring it to a Porsche shop or reputable non-dealer Porsche mechanic and have it inspected, if it was dealer serviced you may even be able to get those service records. Somewhere around here there is a good list of things to have checked, one example would be the condition of the RMS (Rear Main Seal) a common fault of these engines.
At minimum I would say have the oil changed flush the brake system, and the coolant system. If for no other reason than piece of mind and to establish a baseline for future service.

A step further would include a good alignment and possibly even new tires.

Those are just a few things I have learned to date... I am certain others will chime in. (ha, I see a couple other beat me to the punch already!)

some dealerships can give you any warranty work or service done at dealerships with the VIN number. Others have told me it can't be given unless you contact the dealer that did the service. This is where a carfax report can help. Find out where it was titled, retitled, etc. and contact the service departments in those cities. You should be able to reconstruct some history on the car with these methods. And welcome to the boxster family!

BTW, what is deambering??

On all my other cars I change oil, rotate tires etc my self (I know the box doesn't rotate), but with the engine minimally accessible, it seems to my simple mind it would be very difficult to anything to it other than oil change myself.

I don't have a lift (that's a long sad story)

I'm the poster child for the failed PPI.

Seriously, doing PPIs cost me tons of money. How so? Summer before last I sent deposits on 3 different 1967 Ferrari 330GTCs. They ranged in price from $95K to $118K. All 3 failed the PPIs, so I didn't buy. They are all now worth $180k to $225K, so ~$100k lost opportunity.

Funny article. You even mention wetting your pants. (You urologists!)
Few comments:
1. $400 for a PPI on a $100k+ purchase is a drop in a bucket.
2. PPI on a 40yr old "art piece in the garage" to be driven 100 miles a year should have different expectations from a PPI on a 5 yr old car meant to driven hard 10k miles a year.
3. You should be fine without a PPI on the Box, considering that it's a significant downgrade in price from the $100k+ purchases you've been considering. Even in the worst case scenarios (new engine) you'll be just fine.
4. The Ferraris you considered were investments. This Box you just bought, isn't...yet.
