Oil Filter - where?

Hi

First post and it's a numpty question.

My wife has just bought an ex-demo 2.7 Boxster (987) from an OPC here in the UK. I paid for an engine oil and filter change as part of the purchase.

I'm finding that the dealer hasn't attended to other things on the car as agreed and I'm wondering how I can check whether the oil and filter really has been changed.

One thought I had - have a look at the condition of the oil filter - if it's shiny and new then maybe it's been done. Not definitive I know but short of an oil analysis I don't see anything further I can do.

Question - how do I get to the oil filter? From above? From below?

Thanks in advance.

Below. If I remember correctly, this is an element filter, not cannister.

Hence, if I am right, you will not be able to tell if the filter was changed.

The oil on the dipstick should be sparkly clean if just changed.

Good luck.

Sorry, you don't have a dipstick, so cancel my last statement.

In short, you can't tell short of draining the oil to check.

Thanks Brucelee

Didn't know the Boxster had a cartridge filter.

Do any undrtrays have to come off? - nuts on these don't look as though they have been touched recently.

Chris, what does OPC mean?

Can the dealership/service department give you a written receipt for the olil change?

How many miles do you have on the car?

The filter is in a black canister right next to the oil pan (underneath). You don't need to remove anything to get to it, and you will not be able to tell if it has been changed or not.

You can see my boxster oil change writeup here, it has the pictures:

OPC= Official Porsche Center, the same as a dealer.

Thanks All for your thoughts.

Looks like I'm going to have to trust the dealer - but there are several things that should have been sorted prior to handover and weren't, and the standard of preparation of the vehicle was not good - and so I am suspicious of whether they have actually changed the oil and filter. (I'm a cynical engineer.....)

I'm sure they know that the only way I can check is by having an oil analysis done.

Sorry - got a bit of a downer on the dealer. Sold me this big story about the high standards of prep they had to meet and the car fell way below the expectation they had built up. On handover dealer said 'the valeters have spent hours on this car....' - don't know what they were doing as they couldn't possibly have been cleaning it.

Currently in discussions, as they say.....
