1st Oil Analysis
Had my oil done...seems to be good...any thoughts?

Sure: Why are you using a 5W or even 10W-30? It is the wrong weight for these engines...............

Agreed. My understanding is that for M96 engines under 80K miles 0W-40 is recommended. After that, and in hot climates, 5W-40 is the way to go.
I believe Mobil 1 5W-30 is recommended for diesel engines, so I would stay away from that formula. I could be wrong, but this philosophy has served me well for many years.
Just sayin'............

Good report, but it's only one report, and your baseline. Stop using a 5W30 oil. If you want to stay loyal to Mobil, and want an A40 Porsche Approved Oil, I'd recommend 5W50. That's what I use. If you drive in the cold months, switch over to 0W40. I use Mobil 5W50 from March till Ocober, and change every 5,000 miles. Car is hibernated in the winter.

I have a 986 with 44K miles and still have the original ims, I was told to use 10w40. Which I have done and using the Gibbs racing oil. Is this still the recommended weight for my particular situation?

10W-40 oil, depending upon whose oil, usually offers considerably higher film strength than lower weights. That said, there are now 5W-40 oils, such as the Gibbs DT40, that show comparable film strength in a slightly lower weight oil, which the M96 engine likes.

That sounds good, I have been using the DT40, so I'll switch to the 5W40 on my next change. Thanks Jeff
