The OEM alternator is made by Bosch. Over here in Germany the parts can be overhauled by Bosch workshops. I don't know if there are similar Bosch workshop network in the UK.

Yes there is a Bosch workshop nearby. I will take it out myself though and fit a new regulator and brushes.

The voltage at the battery is variable. When starting it yesterday it dropped to 10V while cranking, rose to 13.3 at fast tick over then falling back to 12.2V at normal idle speed.

So I will take it out and have a look at it. Hopefully Bosch can sell me a service kit.
