Question about extended warranty.(987)
I just pick my new Boxster 2006 last Saturday and the dealer Offer me an extended warranty at gold level for
$3,500 and it will cover 6 years /70K miles.
The car comes with 4 years 48k miles. So the $3.500 will
Only cover 2 extra years and 22k extra miles.
Do you think it is a good Idea to buy extended warranty
for the Boxster?
Thanks
Franz

Total rip-off. Get a SecureCare+ warranty for 7 years, 75k miles from WarrantyDirect.com
This covers EVERYTHING on the car, bumper to bumper. If you add the optional emissions coverage, you get coverage for things like mass-air flow sensor and O2 sensors (pricey items that will need to be replaced).
Total price for your car (2006 Boxster) with $0 deductible: $2045.
Heck the most expensive coverage, 7 years, 100k miles, is only $2565.

Take the $3,500 and put it into an interest bearing account for any future non warranty repairs.

Hey, we are all just guessing.
Nobody can predict what will happen at the end of your factory warranty.
Good luck.

Agreed. All an extended warranty reall is, is an insurance policy. If you buy it and you have to replace the engine in 5 years, then a top replacement in 6, it will have been a good investment. Or you could have nothing for 7 years and you just threw away $2000. It's all a crapshoot.
But the cheapest way is to buy it now. For example, my 2002 S runs out of warranty next month and it will be around $3000 for a 4 year (from date of purchase), 75k mile warranty.

Get the fine print on a powertrain warranty... make sure it covers RMS if that's what you're going for.
Heck, the top alone costs what a transmission rebuild costs on a lot of other cars. Sure you don't want one that's more comprehensive?

All I care about is a catastrophic engine failure... that would be the only issue that would pose an problem for me.
Couple of grand for a repair I can live with.. 5-10K for a motor I could not live with

Hello everyone,
I have an '00 S. Does anybody know where I can buy the extended warranty. My S currently has 58K miles. I just want to buy the extended warranty for safety purposes. I checked out the warrantydirect.com site and noticed that it only covers for vehicle from '01 up. Also, some other warranty sites do not cover for vehicle in California. Please let me know!
Thanks
Richard

Check this site out..... www.apiprotection.com . This is the warranty I have used . I purchased it in 2005 in Hawaii on my '98. It had almost 49,000 on it, I got the PremierPlus coverage as well for 3 years/36k. I did not use it in Hawaii, but after moving to Illinois I needed my cam covers resealed, and they took care of it. That work almost paid for the warranty, and I still have about 22 months left on the contract. Covers a lot too.....

You can always buy and extended warranty at the end of the factory period. I just bought an addtl "bumper to bumper" 4 years up to 70K miles from Warranty Direct for ~$1200.00. Like bmussatti said, put the $3500 in an acct for 4 years - you'll have enough to buy the extended "free." By then, you'll know your car well enough to make an intellegent choice. Also, remember the dealer makes a profit on all the X warranty sales.

I checked with warranty direct at it will cost $1600 for 7/75k. I can still wait until the end of the warranty to see it I need the extended warranty. Even thought it will cost more at the end of the warranty. I have to see it I will keep this car after the warranty. I spoke with a Porsche mechanic and he feels boxster in not a car keep beyond the warranty. The 911 is much better for long usage.
Thanks for all your answer. They have been very helpful.
