987 front suspension parts on 986??
I know that 987 front control arms are not a direct swap for 986 front control arms... The joint for the 987 trailing arm is too tall. Is it possible to fit the 987 control arm and the 987 trailing arm as a unit to the 986??

JFro, is this is what you are talking about? (my car it's an '07 987)
The insert for the center bushing that I received from Elephant Racing for the coffin low control arm was shorter that the OEM (987 bushing), Elephant sent me a couple of black nylon spacers to be used at each side of their bushing but have not install them yet ..

Thanks for the reply. That's some of what I'm talking about. It looks like you have a 986 bushing sitting in a 987 trailing arm fork. I've got a set of 987 coffin arms and they don't fit my 986 trailing arms (opposite of what your pic shows). I want to know if I can get 987 trailing arms and use them with the 987 coffin arms on my 986.
I know that the 986 trailing arms are 14 3/8". Rumor has it that the 987 arms are 14 3/4.... That would reduce positive caster and shorten the wheelbase.
Yay or nay??? Fit or not???

The 987 coffin arm is on the left, 986 on the right. No way the 987 coffin arm is going into a 986 trailing arm fork. Hey Gilles, how about measuring the eye-to-eye centers on your 987 trailing arm?

Hello J.Fro,
Today Brad Roberts mentioned, that I could install the 996 GT3 adjustable lower control arms on the 987 chassis as long as I also use the 996 trailing arms without any issues (they are much cheaper than the 997 GT3 control arms)
Therefore, I am assuming that if I can install the 996 control and trailing arms on the 987 chassis, you should also be able to install both of the 987 arms on your 986 as well as long as they are installed in pairs.
Hopefully someone that has done it in the past will chime in..

Unfortunately I don't have a new front trailing arm, and my car is parked on a neighbor house because tomorrow I have to do work on my wife's V70 (also front suspension..) but I will try to measure the front trailing without removing it on Sunday, I will let you know.
Regards, Gilles

J.Fro,
I am sorry last night, got the car on ramps and roughly measured about 14 3/4, but I was not able to get a clear (accurate) measurement because the control arm has the GT3 type air flow thingy (to cool the rotor) and the tape was bending a bit.
Hopefully I will be getting the new caster arm replacements soon, and then I will take an accurate measurement for you.
Regards,
Gilles

987 uprights are very different from 986, I assume far superior in some way. I assume you want to do this due to parts availability.

Parts availability is one aspect; the other is that the later 987 "coffin" arm has an improved bushing where the trailing arm attaches.
Thanks Gilles, no worries!

J.Fro,
The front caster control arm measures exactly 14 1/2" from center to center
I removed mine last night due to a failed 'easy' front bearing replacement...(my wife laughs at me, whenever I mention that will take me only a couple of hours..) needles to say I had to remove everything to get the hub out..
The great news is that I finally got all the control arms new, waiting to be installed (Thanks Brad!)

Not sure if there is enough adjustment, but ERP sells an adjustable puck that replaces the bushing in the trailing arm

Gilles, thanks for taking that measurement, it's great news. The 987 arms are the same length as the 986 units.
