Has the front engine mount ever been replaced? If it's just a noise, and not a misfire or engine power type of problem, my first guess would be a worn/cracked mount.

the pop comes from the right hand side engine vent....R/H drive

That is because it is the nearest 'hole' to the outside from the front engine mount.
Just take the cover off behind the seats and blip the accelerator while watching the mount. Probably not while driving ....
