Missing Remote Key?
I recently purchased a 98 986 with 102K miles. It came with 2 manual keys-the kind with the push button light in the cover, but no remote button. I had to replace batteries and covers and both keys work fine in all locks. My question is, would this car have come with only manual keys eg was keyless remote an option? Or, am I missing the correct key with remote? Is there a way to check?

Remote entry was an option on that car, yours may simply not have it.

Check the options sticker on the underside of the hood/frunk lid. I think option M532 "deleted remote control anti-theft device" means it came from the factory without remote locking.

Be happy you got 2 keys, manual or remote. A lot of us only got 1 and I'm pretty sure my daughter (First born) would protest trading her in for a 2nd key

Here is a photo of my options sticker. Does anyone know how to read this and determine if I should have keyless entry? I think I have a pretty basic car.

It says you don't have remote entry, it was an option in your model year.

Thanks to all, mystery solved. I was kind of liking the retro feel of the manual key anyway. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something

Actually one more question. Does that meant there is no alarm as well?

An early attempt at traction and stability control using the rear brakes to moderate the situation. Not overly successful, it was quickly replaced by the PSM system, which worked very well.
