Chain tensioner - new or used???

Just pulled this out of the box........looks like damaged goods

Is this a slightly used chain tensioner or just a victim of the parts bin/hopper? Thread flanks look pretty clean but WTF?..

That does look pretty rough. How is the O-ring? Did it come with a sealing crush washer?

The oring and thread flanks look to be okay so it's quite strange.....I bought the crush ring separately so it is good

I am going to exchange it if I can.....just to be sure of the internals

I posted as I was wondering if this common....and this is how they come

I've never seen a new one all dinged up on the end like that. If you use it be sure to pump it up in new oil before install.

I was going to use a cup of my current engine oil and compress them by leaning on them.....release and lean until they are hydraulically locked....and then install

Jeeez what do you have there? Timing chain frickazee........hmmmm yum!

Cam chain removal requires engine removal and disassembly. Yes, if I was there I would change them. The items discussed here are cam chain tensioning mechanisms (for the cam chain paddles/ramps) which can be withdrawn from the engine without disassembly or engine removal
