Question Dougherty's West Chester Oil Change $279?

Just wondering what you experience for oil and filter change costs? I just paid Dougherty's, West Chester, PA $279. they indicated it takes 1.8 hours of the Mechanics time to do a oil-filter change. What is your experience/

An oil/filter change in the Chicago area ranges from $110-200.

It takes about 15 minutes to do an oil change if you have a lift or pit.

You got hosed!

Sorry!

Ah man I just changed my oil and filter this past weekend and to my dismay I forgot to reinstall the plug with the crush washer. After some cussing I took the plug back out and had a buddy plug the hole with his finger as I put the washer on the plug and he screwed it back in. It was a little messy but we only lost about 1/3 quart during the washer install. It took about an hour and half but we were standing around and Bs'ing plus we cleaned the pollen filter. Speaking of crush washers, where can one find one of those if I happen to lose it or need to replace it? They don't come with the filters I guess.

You should get a filter, rubber sealing ring and a crush washer with your oil filter kit for $13.95 from www.suncoastporsche.com.

Talking

The crush washer is usually taped to the outside of the filter box.

This topic always generates a good deal of heat, but not much light.
If all they are doing is dumping old oil, removing filter, installing new filter, refilling oil, then MNbox is right, and you paid for their lunch for the rest of the week.
If on the other hand they performed what could be called a yearly oil change and maintenance, then they could have chewed up over an hour of shop time.
In any event, almost $300 is plenty.
