yeah I really like the Carbon Fiber hood. Too bad. I think, it only looks good on black boxsters. Mine is Silver and I dont think it looks as good. I have done tons of mods. Some I saw listed on your web site, but I think I will pass on that option.
Looks good on yours

That's neat! Do you have a rough guess or actual number for the weight of the stock hood? I'm thinking it must be at least 50 pounds...not an insignificant improvement!

CharlesGordon,
I have not weighed the stock hood, but I have been told about 30-35 pounds...

Can it be painted?
I was recently in a fender bender with my 2001 Boxster. Can the carbon fiber hood be painted blue to match? For that matter, how does one have any paint matching done for Porsche body parts? I will be filing an insurance claim but I'm investigating alternatives to all new parts from the dealer. LA Porsche seems to be a good source of used parts based on their website. How hard are the body parts to put on? Can I do it myself? I'm not very experienced, but I can do basic mechanical stuff.
I'm a Porsche newbie. I bought it about 15 months back.
Also, was the 2001 blue the lapis or ocean blue?

you will be kicked off this forum...
Be careful - you will be kicked off this forum for admitting that you like carbon fiber components on your Boxster. The Mr. Kungfu forum owner got into it with me over carbon fiber.

Trying to do body work yourself is an awful idea for anyone. If you want to upgrade a hood, that's fine, but if you are repairing accident damage, leave it to the pros. There are almost always far more problems than you can see. As far as paint matching, all that is done by your body shop, and they can do an amazing job. Which means you don't need to know what color your car is. And body shop labor is cheap -- about $35-40/hr. So it just makes sense to not try the work on your own.

You mislead folks here. I would never kick off someone just for having bad taste in car finishes and bling.
To each his own!
Of course, folks will be thinking you have a Honda del Sol but hey, it is your money!
We are joking here of course!
Enjoy the ride.

PorscheBoy: Holysmokes!!! that looks amazing, I like it how it blends really well with a black car. I am thinking to purchase one for my box as well, does it uses factory hood frame, or straight bolt on using factory hood lock?
If you don't mind, could you PM me where you purcharse the hood from?
Cheers~

thanks
Well, Porsche saw fit to use a composite of some kind for the bumper wraps. I guess if they use a steel hood then it's not purist to replace w/ CF, but I've been jeepin' for awhile & the standard in that community is to upgrade whenever something breaks. CF is de rigeur in racing, so as long as it fits and it can be painted to match the rest of the body I have no problem using it. 20# is 20#.
I guess I won't post any pics until the amber's gone.
It's a good thing this ain't a 911 forum.

Well my vote is +1 for the carbon. I love the stuff and did my whole Ducati Monster in it. It oozes performance and is functional too.
Those carbon side ducts would bring it all together!
