3.2L oil transducer plug in left cylinder bank?

Those of you with access to their engines/cars....can you see plug in the left cylinder head bank that could be used for oil temperature? I think is there on the 3.4 and consequently should be there on the 3.2. The plug could be pulled and replaced with a
Sender for oil temperature .....or pressure for that matter if there is oil under there!

I stumbled upon this while looking at 996 parts list!

I believe you are right. When I spoke to my engine builder about the same thing, he said there was one on the other head also. Which is where I plan to add mine when it goes back in.

Are both transducer locations accessible from the top the engine through the hatch?

I plan to put a temperature probe in one and pressure transducer in the other.

When I rebuilt my 1st engine I installed a oil pressure gauge with the sending unit installed in the drivers side cam cover. Room is limited by the air filter housing & installation must be done from underneath by the transmission. I had to make an adapter to the metric threads in the cam cover which added about 1" to the installed height & jammed against the air filter housing so I removed it once the engine was broken in.

One threaded outlet is located in each position.. This is great for pressure readings and horrible for temp readings.

As far as I can see with the material I have found, the Boxster has its pressure switch in the right bank. I am pretty sure many have put in a 996 sender in that spot (working from above I had thought). Are you saying any type of adapter will cause height interference???? I was planning to use an autometer m14 x 1.5 male to 1/8 NPT to work with an AEM sensor. Not entirely sure of the thread size in the head yet. There doesnt seem to be any information on the output of the 996 sender; it has to be compatible with the gauge so I am stuck using another sensor and gauge

Can you recall what thread size they are? Where would be the best place to pick up oil temperature? I suppose accusump fittings near the filter could work but I don't have that..

I also found a temperature sensor for the oil pump on what looks to be a 986 schematic....not sure where output goes ....didn't think one can see this via the OBD. Looks like it would be dedicated for the computer

So where would you recommend putting a temp sender? Possibly in the sump cover? I'm concerned about clearance below that.

Thanks

I've not seen a temp sensor that would not stick out too far. One interesting souliton is to have a bung welded into one of the large oil passage ways in the oil cooler for the temp sensor.....

Thread is 14mm X 1.5 & Boxster sending unit is on pass side & there is alot more room there than driver side. I put the aftermarket sending unit on my drivers side (temporally) so as not to interfere with oem warning light.

Thanks! Yes, this may be the case especially with an adapter. I can not see my engine at the moment. Are you talking about both cam cover locations or just the driver's side?

The oil cooler bung maybe a tricky fab by the sounds of it

Thanks that is great info. This may mean I will loose the idot light if I put temp and pressure transducers in the left and right cam covers.

It would be nice to test the output of the 996 sender and match it to a gauge that works with the look of the car.

Did you actually get a temp sensor with an adapter to fit on the passenger side?

Witch gauge sensor combo did you use?
