Damage to the plastic housing is not unusual; but as mentioned, do not even think about trying to repair it, it won't work. The housing is a common replacement item, so it should not take long to find one..........

The alternative to replacing the canister cover
is to install an adapter that allows a "normal" one-piece filter of the type used in most other cars. LNengineering sells one in a kit complete with your first filter. Makes subsequent filter changes easier and you buy filters at your local auto-parts store.

Thanks guys for the advise. Ordered the canister, $20, will take a week to arrive.
The LNengineering kit looks like my next project, a little strapped for cash at the moment, dropped a couple grand on the tranny.

Hey Cesar, Good to know that you got the tranny back on the car and it's working fine!
Would you mind sharing the details of the repair, like which components were replaced, labor charges etc..?
.

The damage to the canister didn't come from your strap wrench, did it?
