Need some Boxster owner's insight.
I'm looking into buying a 2001 Porsche Boxster S. Comes with every option. Seal Gray x3. It's in wonderful condition minus a few dents. It also has an engine rebuild at around 30k miles. Everything works great. Clean Carfax and fresh tires.
The chasis has 200k miles...
Do you think $12k would be a good deal?

Check some of my posts, suspension parts on these cars do not last very long, so if there has been no suspension upgrades, make sure they are checked out. I have a 2001 and have replaced quite a few suspension pieces, and still have a rattle/noise I pinpoint. BTW, my mileage is 40k.

From the limited pictures, it looks like at least 3 options are not included on that car (no sports seats, missing wind deflector and headrest mesh, what looks to be 17" wheels.) Plus, there are very few places that can/will rebuild the engines on a Boxster so I would question where he got it rebuilt.
Not insulting the car, just pointing out the errors in the listing. I would question what else he may have "accidentally" made a mistake on.
With that said, $12,000 for an '02 S is a great price but 200,000 miles, wow.

"Clean Carfax and fresh tires"
question: does clean carfax show the car's scheduled maintentance was performed at every interval suggested by a certified Porsche dealer. IF it was it will be listed in the Car Fax. Also there should be something about an engine rebuild there unless it was done by a non-certified Porsche dealership, which would bring up the question of whether the well known IMS failures where addressed.
Also Extended warranty?? yes or no?? if not bad news.
I pay $275 a month just for piece of mind. I drive the hell out the car. reason. if anything happens I pay $0.00 dollars for parts and $0.00 dollars for labor. %100 percent covered. Engine blown they replace it, I pay nothing. Oh, to replace engine will be about $24,000 on a 2003 Boxter S. my warranty is US fidelis. its been used already for AC not working. they had the car for a week and loaned me a Toyota Camry the whole time at there expense. think about it.
oh also I've heard rumors of the suspension parts wearing extremely fast in this cars as well. no first hand experience yet. my car only has 50,000 miles though.
hopes this helps later.

Future repairs to look forward to.
New engine
New trans and clutch including shifter components
Rear main seal
Any and all suspension parts.
New top and or motor to power the top
Brakes all around
Tires every year
Well, I could go on.
Look for a lower mileage car without a history. Pay a bit more, save much in the end.
Good luck

With 200k miles on the chassis, expect to pay a good sum to change out all the suspension bits. Check RandallNeighbour's post about how much he spent on his 97.
Oh and every owner with plastic rear window (97-02) will tell you they dread about it. So factor that in as well.
There's a reason why these cars are cheap.
