I have been doing Porsche engine conversions for over 10 years. a Boxster conversion doesnt really scare me at this point. I enjoy the electrical aspect associated with the late model cars. The last conversion was a Varioram 3.6 air cooled into 73 chassis (ala RGruppe style)

Thanks for the PM, I appreciate it. I'll give them a call sometime in the next week.
3.6 Liters in a Boxster just seems so crazy...and wonderful...

3.6L in a boxster would be the best of both worlds too. Mid-engine feel with the 315hp engine behind driver would be way too much fun! Also a nice sleeper effect going on. Blowing by 911's and c5's all day would be fun as hell. It would leave the other drivers asking themselves "how did my 911 just get smoked by that boxster?"

				3.6 L engine conversion

			Adam
I fully agree. The thought itself is so exciting.

Brad, do let me know if you indeed are going to begin the conversion on Sep 14. If I am in town, I will swing by.

how much would the 3.6L engine conversersion cost? Would't have be done in conjunction with brake upgrades? Roock in North America does the package for about 20K engine and brakes and some cosmetics.

I would think that a 3.6L conversion would destroy the weight ratio of the car.

I would think it would stay pretty close to the stock weight since the physical dimensions of the 3.2L and the 3.6L are nearly identical.

Correct Adam. The weight will not change enough to measure. A few MM's larger on bore only adds a few ounces of material to each piston.

By the way, can you help me by recomending me to the porsche mechanic in bay area who can do a 3.4 l conversion on my 2003 Boxster?
Also, I have a tiptronic - is the 3.4l conversion possible only on a manual?

If you are planning on a 3.4 why not go 3.6 ?? I played baseball in the past. When I went to the plate I was hitting for a home run... not hitting to ground out to third. If you want a engine conversion aim for the home run... not grounding out to third (go 3.6)

For people in the San Francisco Bay Area we are having a tech session October 9th in Santa Cruz.http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2766
The plan is to have this 3.4 conversion there. Jeff

Well, what you say makes sense - 3.6l is better than 3.4l
My only question is - is any of these conversions possible on a tiptronic 2.7l boxster?

Thanks for sending me that link - I will certainly be there in October.

I would imagine that the cost difference would be enough to keep some people away from the 3.6L conversion, considering the fact that there's only about 20-25 HP difference. (Correct me if I'm wrong).
Anyway, the bank account is already started, waiting for the $$$ to pile up, only to be used to make a 3.4L Boxster. Perhaps I'll be persuaded to a 3.6L if there's enough argument about it.

Regardless, 2.7L up to 3.4 or 3.6 is a sick jump, and I can't wait.

Yep. The silver Boxster above is pretty damn quick. We AutoX with him regularly at Marina. On Tuesday I'll be checking with Mike at Carlson to find out how much a 3.8 997 engine is shipped to the door.

Let's hear some interest in a close to 300HP N/A package.

				997 vs 996 engine

How different are these two engines - 996 and 997? How much capacity, HP, torque, etc?
 Just curious!
