Ya, they even made carbon fiber roofs for the e46's. They need a CSL model of the new M3 that has carbon fiber bumpers, roof, hood, trunk, rear seat delete (kinda like the GT3), and carbon fiber sport seats. All of those parts are availible for the e46 so it can be done. Probably also have carbon fiber doors, fenders, and other stuff for sale too.

If you want to actually hear the new V8 at the 'Ring, check this out. It's brief, but it'll make you want to buy one.

The new M3 has a CF roof (for sure) and hood I believe. Plastic front fenders too.
They have done much to keep weight the same and add 96 HP. I think they have done fine.
When is the last time Porsche added 96 HP in a model revision?

Judging from the couple of youtube N-ring clips, the new V8 sounds and pulls great but the car's moves had porky undertones.

I seem to recall the 99 boxster having 200 HP, and the new S having 295.... granted its over 8 years and has had steps inbetween, we forget the boxster has been through a lot. While the BMW went up .8 liters to get the power, the boxster went up .9 liters (with .6 liters shy of the BMW).

Gaining 20 lbs is too much
I am sure it will be a fantastic car. But, 3400-3600lbs is a LOT of car. I am a fan of "adding lightness" and pretty much since the late 1980s have been disappointed about the increase in car weights overall.
I remember when a 3000lb 928 was "heavy". Now a base 911 is that much and the 997TT is closer to 3300lbs. Sure it has a lot of technology and advancements that 20 years ago was a pipe dream but still, weight is the enemy!

Since you like your cars to get lighter, you will like this fact.
Corvette C4 model year 1996-Curb weight 3245, HP, about 330.
Corvette C6 Zo6, curb weight 3130, HO about 505.
Nice trend?
