I never bothered to de-winterize my cars since moving here from Alaska. Everyone always comments on the plug dangling out of the grill.

To stay on topic, I also stuffed foam rubber pads cut to shape into my exhaust pipe and intake vent to keep critters and bugs out.
I try to properly wash, wax, and detail the car and cover it with a nice soft car cover.

Contrasting this, I've also hastily stored some cars in the past (I used to keep cars in various states) and found that getting a good fuel stabilizer was the most important item. I once put away a motorcycle and forgot to put in Stabil and it really messed up the tank, fuel valve and carburetor.
