I think this is going to be a problem. Your 1999 DME is a 5.2.2, and I do not think it is capable of dealing with the code for the 996 as it was a pretty basic DME. If it can be done, you will need the car's codes and access to a PST II or PIWIS unit and a cooperative dealer (they are not supposed to help people do this).

You might want to pose this question to one or more of the aftermarket software guys, they may have something you can use instead.

    Hi JFP in PA,

Just posted this didn't know if you had any insight?

I recently had a 2000 3.2l Boxster S engine put into my 1999 Boxster. The car currently runs, but wanted to take advantage of the extra power by using a 3.4l 996 flash for the ecu instead of the 2.5l is currently loaded. My mechanic and the local Porsche dealer have been unable to do this. The car has all the standard electronics for the 1999 Boxster and a 3.4l mechanical throttle body. I have read that the ecu can be flashed with the 3.4l software used for the 996. Is this possible? If so what steps need to be done?
