I didn't need to rewire my micro switches. I think Porsche changed the top transmission system for 2000 model year and my car had the same system as the 03/04 cars. If you started hearing the beep after you rewired the micro switch, I think you are correct that the beep is related. The 03/04 top gives the car a more upscale feel and glass is simply better than plastic.

Thanks for the Renntech post - I think that is all I need to get the 2003 top liner attached (and for it to stop raining)! Question - did you have to rewire your micro switches to add the updated top? I rewired my car so it no longer uses the micro switch on the b-pillar and convertible top motor - and now uses the micro switch in the convertible top transmission and the newer solenoid. Everything works as expected and no dash light when the top is fully up or fully down but when I lock the car I get a single horn beep indicating something is open. It happened at the same time as when I rewired the micro switch so I'm guessing it is related. Any thoughts?
