Unhappy headlamp stalk fault

My headlamp stalk will not operate dipped or main beam without holding it back.
Headlamps do not work at all dipped.
I have a 2004 S Tiptronic without cruise....ie. 3 stalks.
Pelican have a switch stalk with 3 arms for $444!
Can't believe a small switch can be that expensive..
Anybody done a repair??????

Contact Woody "itsnotanova" for the part. I just sold a 3 stalk for $45 shipped on eBay.

Better yet, upgrade to a 4 stalk and enable your onboard computer!

They should not be expensive.

I bought a 3 stalk from Gaudin Porsche (on line) in Feb 2012 for $177.91, shipping included. Google them. I'm in NC, they are in Nevada.

I replaced it myself, and it wasn't bad. My only mistake was I reconnected the battery terminal before reconnecting everything, and I ended up with a check engine light that I had to get reset. I followed this you-tube tutorial:

It was almost four years ago, but from what I remember it wasn't a hard project. I wish I had done the four stalk and enabled the OBC.

Assuming you've verified both dipped bulbs (halogen system) are NOT burned out...

Issue sounds more like symptoms of a bad headlight switch... not stalk. Doubly so w/ litronic lights.

If so, repair part (though not inexpensive) should be less than half the cost of a new stalk... and much simpler to DIY. If you have the wiring diagram you can remove the existing switch and make a jumper to test the lights.

Good luck

Woody is a guy who parts out a lot of dead boxsters so we can keep ours alive!

His user name on the boards is "itsnotanova" and this is the thread that has all of his part out cars.

http://986forum.com/forums/boxster-parts-sale-wanted/52469-parting-out-whole-lot-boxsters.html

He may have the one you are looking for. I do know that there is a way to enable cruise control on a boxster so a 4 stalk may also work. Here is the procedure on the Pelican Parts site

Porsche Boxster Cruise Control Installation - 986 / 987 (1997-08) - Pelican Parts Technical Article

Good luck!

I have a 4 stalk that I removed the OBC levers on. You could reuse your existing OBC lever on this one.

I will let it go cheap. Let me know if you want it.

Probably not the stalk. Likely that your headlight switch is bad.
