So... when do we get to start buying one of these little gems? ;)
|
I want to test it at least until the end of June :)
The more I test it, the better! What will be a surprise is the dyno results I think. The power is definitely there! |
Hi guys!
Today I took a look a the plenum :) http://nsa37.casimages.com/img/2016/...2903627786.jpg It looks good, no deformation, and still stiffer than the cross tube in fact! I do need to make some modifications because the big radius makes it a b*tch to put in... I have to try another technic to put it in easily and save the big radius! I also need to clean to outside surface better as oil can seep through the pores (Nothing major, I just need to take more time prepping it, and epoxy paint will finish the job), the first one didn't have this problem. I also found a solution for the AOS to connection, I'll show you when I get the parts. Ben |
Could you make one for the 911, or will it fit?
Also, why not make one that connects all 4 intake tubes? What's the point of just the connector on the rear two? |
I can make one for the 911, it might happen after I'm done with the one for the boxster :)
The secondary cross tube has a valve in it that only opens after a certain rpm to virtually vary the intake volume. Making it just one big piece would defeat the purpose of the cross tube and loose low end power. |
Hi guys,
Last update before I go on vacation (finally graduated ;) )! I'm still using the plenum, and it's still giving entire satisfaction so far! It has not deformed, softened, or cracked! I found a good way to put it in and pull it out without much trouble, so I won't have to reduce the radius like I thought. The only modification that I will do is space the vacuum fittings more... nothing major. My car has giving me trouble lately, not due to the plenum, but the AOS and it's lower vent hose. I see the end ;) Ben. |
Congrats on graduating!!! I'm pretty confident you will do well in the field!
|
Hi guys!
So... Bad news. Right now I am stuck in France for an unknown amount of time... Thanks to my school who provided excellent informations again. I've been denied access to the plane after my connecting flight in Zurich. A 1200€ plane ticket in the trash, and a trip back to Nice... yep. At least I, and everyone I know are safe! I don't know how or when I'm going to come back :/ So the plenum project in delayed... again. Ben. |

I wish you, your family and friends, all the best. Take care, and come back safe. Do not be too worry, I'm sure things will work out fine. |
Some news, I'm still in France...
I should be back by the end of august :/ Once I'm back, the first ones will be available! Ben. |
Nice work man...come back safe!
Looks like you can adapt the stock 3.2 to work with this... Can you print in black ? |
Thank you :)
Yes, it will fit the 986 2.7/3.2 (After, I plan on doing it for the 987.1 and 996). I can do it in "black". Their black is more like a dark blue. So I will print them in white and paint the outside like I did on the first one |
Okay.....! I meant stock 3.2 intake tube...looks it will fit with some end treatment
|
Ah! Didn't understand, sorry.
The 3.2 intake tube is the same as the 2.7 intake tube, they both use a 68mm TB. The intake tube I use is what I've found to be the easiest and cheapest without butchering the stock tube. There might be better solutions (AirAid UBI kit), but more expensive. |
So are you still planning to sell the 3D designs online for others to buy and build their own shape??
G |
You mean the 3D file ?
No, I will keep it, but I can definitely make plenum for custom applications! Ben |
Hi Ben. What part of Florida are you in?
|
PM'd you ;)

Not doing that anymore? G |
Here is my version.

Yes, I'm still using the same service, and you will be able to purchase it through them if you want. But if you do, you will have to prep it and get the M6 nuts yourself too. And the customization they offer is limited, you can just put a writing on it, and with the reinforcing ribs, it's not going to look good. Tell me if you have any more question ;) Alfieg, are you happy with the result in terms of power? Ben. |
Increased power
Hi Ben006,
Yes, I am happy with the power. I also added headers and replaced my secondary cats with test pipes. |
Ok, hold on. Your selling them now? Where did Alfieg get his? Been waiting a year for you, hopefully your close partner.

Only one. When? |

It's not a solution I like really, even though it works. When? I'll finally be back in the US Friday! I'll need to do a final check on the prototype that is still on my car, and then I'll start to make the first ones ;) Ben |
Recent mod
I didn't mean to create any controversy. I had purchased the parts over a year ago and only recently did the mod. I am certain Ben006's kit is first class.

Go
No problem Alfieg ;)
Alright... Who want one? :D But... I need guinea pigs! The one on my car is fine, it works, it has been there for more than four months now and I'm very satisfied. But now, I need a few people that are interested in getting one and that are OK to be guinea pigs: Give me their feedback, collect some datas if possible, etc Preferably if you have a S model, as I'm sure the 3.2L engine will react even better to the mod. And even better if you already have an aftermarket exhaust system! The testers would pay at cost, it's the best I can do. Keep in mind that with the plenum, you'll need to buy a 996 throttle body, and an intake tube. -You'll need to buy the TB by yourself, as I can't guarantee a used part (unless you want to buy it new... but at 360$ a piece I wouldn't). -For the intake tube, you can easily make one like mine (no metal cutting needed), it fits perfectly. If there is enough demand I can find the 90° couplers in bulk, which would cost less and include thel with the plenum. The bent tube itself is available on eBay. If you have any questions, suggestions, or if you're interested, tell me ;) I hope you'll like it as much as you've liked the shifters! :) Ben |
about to pm you
|
Im in line. Ready to experiment
|
I would be interested in helping I am just about to buy a 987 airbox and 996 throttle body and was planning to use a 996 plenum.
Cheers David |
Well, I found my testers! That was quick!
I'm PM'ing/Answering you right now :) Thanks! Ben |
Done!
Here is a link for the tube I've used: + two 3" to 3 1/8" 90° bend silicon couplers EDIT: First one is ordered !! Ben |
Second one on the way for testing!
I've order 100 M6 nuts and bolts, that's enough for 25 plenums ;) Ben |
Cool, I look forward to experimenting. My goal is to add at least 30hp from these mods. I have access to vivid racings dyno so I'll do a couple of pulls in a few weeks.
Then I'll do the install and let the ecm set for a few weeks then dyno again. Bang for the buck this is going to be a good mod. |
I'm really looking forward to the dyno results!
I just drove mine 2hours and had a little fun with it, it definitely pulls more than a stock boxster 2.7! Next thing for my car will be to fix the timing... too much deviation :/ then put back some catalytic converters on the mid pipes and a tune... and I'll be done for performance upgrades! |
Madmodz, are you a 2.7 or 3.2? I might be able to arrange for some before/after dyno runs on my S too. I'll call the shop this week. debating just doing the dyno for the plenum/tb or adding the 987 airbox i just got too...

Hey Eddy, I have the 2.7 Vivid racing does a ton of Porsche work, and I was thinking of doing a flash too. I'm running 4 cats to straight pipes no mufflers. I want to delete two of the pipes and go straight. I really want to do a TPI stage 2 turbo in the future |
I received the first one!
It feel very good, they have gotten better with their 3d printers, there is almost no marks on it! I'm really happy with the result. http://nsa38.casimages.com/img/2016/...0526730330.jpg http://nsa37.casimages.com/img/2016/...8052796097.jpg http://nsa38.casimages.com/img/2016/...0527351122.jpg http://nsa37.casimages.com/img/2016/...0527608554.jpg Now I'm going to smooth the inside to get rid of any loose particle and paint the outside to seal it (since I won't polish the outside). Ben. |
i'm no engineer, but it looks like you've designed a very nice piece.
