Quality Porsche Parts on eBay may have even better selection than Oklahoma Foreign

amitmishra4 09-26-2014 06:23 AM

Looks like an amazing job with the cables. I would love to do this to my Boxster. Bump for good DIY.

Update: ordered a set and received them in the mail. Just as I thought, top notch work, thanks.

robbiex1 10-22-2014 12:27 PM

Sent a PM. Tell me how to pay you for this as I want a set of cables for the 4 stalk OBC. Thanks!

jim_hoyland 10-26-2014 04:29 PM

If I have the outside temp showing does that mean the OBC is on ?

Pdwight 10-26-2014 05:11 PM

Yes, it should be on if you are seeing the outside temp

jim_hoyland 11-03-2014 03:13 PM

Received the switch with the wires; very well done ! I have a question regarding the placement of the switch. Previously I've read that some switches are left or right only; that is that fit on one side of the air/heat console but not the other. All my slots on the right (passenger side ) are full; this leaves me with only the driver side. Will the switch work on the left (driver side ) ?

Second question: is a second switch required to make the "speed gong" operational ?

Jim

Pdwight 11-04-2014 04:08 AM

Yes

Install in any vacant switch opening.

jim_hoyland 11-15-2014 01:53 PM

Is a separate switch required to set the speed gong ? How is the speed set ?

Pdwight 11-15-2014 05:52 PM

Im not sure if you can set the speed gong with a simple dash switch. I could provide a 4 stalk cable and you could add two switches I suppose to get the entire abilities....but I have no experience with that

jim_hoyland 11-21-2014 04:50 AM

We installed the OBC switch and have found the wiring job excellent; the switch now allows the function to cycle through. I have a couple of questions:

1. The switch has two buttons but only one seems to cause the OBC to cycle. Pressing the other side doesn't appear to have any effect ? Is this normal ?

2. Is there anyone out there who did the two (2) switch installation ? Would like clarification whether this allows setting the speed gong function

I would recommend Dwights harness to anyone wishing to use the OMC, it's a nice upgrade.

Thanks Jim, projects from my very own "Skunk Wurx" Shop...made by hand :)

Hi PD,

I still have your switch harness you sent me, but I ended up buying a 4 stalk switch. Go figure. What modifications would need to be done to make the conversion from the switch harness to the 4 stalk harness.

Is the length the same?
Do I need to add 2 more wires with the connectors?

Thanks

PD,
Answered my own question. When I posted previously, I was at lunch on the work computer that doesn't allow photos. Sent you a PM.

Hi Kram,

I'm in the process of doing the same on mine using Pdwight's harness. My question, where did you find the shroud where the stalks protrude?

Or did you dremel the lower hole?

KRAM36 02-21-2015 04:11 PM

I bought the whole unit off eBay for $199.99 shipped.

There is another one for sale by the same person I bought mine from.

The rubber shroud has pre marked indentations on the back side. All you need is a utility or exacto knife to cut it out.

Pdwight 02-21-2015 04:17 PM

Suncoast

THese folks have some of the hard to find stuff...even the caps for the different "handles"

Fintro11 02-21-2015 04:19 PM

I need to do this

Pdwight 02-21-2015 04:23 PM

Let me know

I will fix you up with a harness

Thanks Bruce,

I have the harness & the stalk, it's just to darn cold to work in the garage!

BTW Top speed came through on the same deal and I bought the test pipes. Thank you for that tip as well.

Don

I forgot to mention I bought this because my turn signal broke. I was looking at the 3 stalk to replace mine and found that one. Sure glad I got it and the wire harness from Pdwight, which made it such an easy mod. He even includes directions of where to plug everything in at.

No problem Don! Even here in Texas I am tired of this winter already, way too cold. I moved down here from the North to get away from cold weather! You will like the results of both projects! Hopefully you can get in the garage soon:cheers:

Would any stalk work from a parts car? I think I may jump the gun on this one!

You need the fourth stalk from any 986 and maybe a 996? I got a complete four stalk from a parts car and just removed the proper stalk and installed it on mine. Easy to do:cheers:

Fintro11 04-25-2015 11:44 AM

I got one spotted we will see if I can get it :)

Fintro11 04-26-2015 09:35 PM

damn outbid >.< why do people bit stuff up way before the auction ends >.<

Fintro11 04-26-2015 09:45 PM

Hmm I wonder what other levers are the same as the 986 ..... Hmmm

BFeller 04-27-2015 05:25 AM

The other stalks do not have the same mount. I did poke around on a some Audi and VW parts website trying to find a stalk that might work. I figured our cars borrowed some other Audi/VW stuff like the key switch.

BruceH 04-27-2015 05:43 AM

I'll try to keep an eye out for one for you Martin.

Fintro11 04-27-2015 07:14 AM

Thanks Bruce!

Yes, this is annoying. I think it's usually either someone that doesn't understand how an auction works or the seller using multiple accounts to drive up the price prematurely.

I have the 4 stalk in my feed for you. Will let you know ;)

Fintro11 04-27-2015 12:55 PM

Thanks Charles !

Yeah I think it's usually the seller that bumps it up >.<

I just found a 4 stalk assembly to add the 4th stalk to my 2002, now I just need the harness.

Pdwight - I'll send the $45 for the 4 stalk harness via PayPal tonight. Let me know your lead time.

Fintro11 - Sorry if it was me that got the one you were bidding on. I got it Sunday late, but maybe not the same one since price was low until the last 10 minutes or so, got it for just over $100.

Pdwight 04-30-2015 07:39 PM

Soon

I have two partially finished and will get them all out by tomorrow's mail...work has beat me up this week..sorry for the delay but I iwll not take any short cuts on my work.

When I was a young student in Electronics class (think 1973) one of the instructors told us "If you dont have time to do it right the first time...how will you ever find time to do it right the second time?"

Thanks everyone

Dwight

That's a good price, I think I paid $130. I had not heard of that parts place. They seem to have reasonable prices.
