They apparently sent 4 H1 bulbs, which appears a little odd as I thought main beam was a H7. The photo also only shows 2 bulbs to be fitted whilst I understood the existing lights have 2 H7's for high and low beam. We'll soon see.
The only downside I can see is that I will lose the manual light adjust switch, but then again I've never used it - will keep the old lights anyway just in case a new owner wanted to re-install them. I still have a nagging doubt they may look cheap, but the black housings should hopefully negate the alternative chrome finish, especially on a black car. Expect in car shots this weekend. |
Your low and high beam looks like H1. Your fog light looks like H7.

Here's a close up to show the fit! Great Fit! i say it's a perfect fit! |
Now I'm envious! Roll on the weekend!
Fitment does look very good! H1 bulbs now confirmed. I can now search for some Osram Off Road bulbs to suit. Good job on the show car. |
Thanks PCC010
You will find the install a walk in the park. Wait till you see how nice they look turned on. the colour of the white leds are awsome and you will love the small leds around the projectors. the best part is the way the changing colour amber signals gradually fade back to white after signalling. AWSOME! cant wait for your feedback after your install im sure you will be as happy as am i |
Love to see those on a stock boxster, yours is so modified it's hard to imagine what they would look like on my black stocker.
The chrome ones look too shiny on the black boxster I've seen pictured. |
Low and hibeams are H1. What are the fogs?
|
Hey CRONO 0001
Fogs are the same as factory. H7. it doesn't come with them so i just used the ones from my stock fog lights. the oem stock low/hi beams are also H7, thats why they include H1's for hi/low on these lights. HI/LOW are both "H1" (they are included (x4) but you will need.... FOGS "H7" (Not included - use your oem's or get new ones, whatever you prefer) hope this helps |
I hear you Scrapmot,
im not a fan of the chrome on black much either. the great thing is i think PCC is installing a set of black ones on his black box this weekend. im sure hell post pics and im sure it will look great Black on Black - a must see - cant wait! i bet they are gonna look friggen awsome! i guess we just need to stay tuned until the weekend. Hey PCC - we are all excited as much as you are!! (lol) |
In which case I'll just remove my retrofit H7 HID kit from my current headlights, fit that onto the fogs, and order new H1 HIDs for the projectors
|
HID conversion to Black projectors
Yes Crono 0001 that would work,
just note that the fogs should be more yellowish so perhaps you should go with a low k bulb for the H7's (3000k), i dont think you want bright white for fogs, if that makes sense! i heard that the phillips slim line HID's are small and easy to place right beside the light assembly. thats the ones im going with! easy plug and play. ive attached the colour chart for reference in case you or anyone ever needs it. All the best! http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1346198255.jpg |
Just ordered my set. Hopefully get them next week.

Okay - apologies for not posting pics through this walk through on fitment, but promise to upload some pics later today.
Okay, lets walk through the install and I am going to be critical, but fair! Installation of bulbs is a little fiddly more me being paranoid not wanting to make contact with the filament itself. Install into the car is easy - once you know how to dislodge the existing - their is a u-tube clip that will help - 996 headlight replacement. The fit I would give 9 out of 10. The rubber seal isnt perfect against the bodywork, but unless you are specifcally looking for it then I wouldnt say it is a major issue. The seal itself can tear so be careful! Install simply slides in and locks into the existing wiring connector. Once switched on my indicators were going haywire and I thought more resistors required (I have LED rear lights and a pair of 3rd brake lights). However, once I started the engine every thing settled down and problem solved!!!! I'l let the pics tell their own story, but these lights ARE AMAZING!!!! They blend in perfectly and modernise the car - thoroughly modernise the car. Personal opinion - black on black is perfect! Once I post the pics I'll let you know if the auto adjust still works! Be back soon |
I had a slight fitment issue (small gap about 1/8 of an inch on the passenger side light at the top when i first installed them.
But i realized that the light did not properly lock in. When i did it over again and heard the click when it finally locked properly, the gap was gone totally. I must say that these light actually fit the body 10/10, im actually surprised it doesnt sit 100% for you, but i would remove and retry a couple times so the position is bank on if possible, because i thought mine were off too at first- but they are actually perfect when sittting properly! (At least thats the experience i had on my car anyways! you can see the fit in my pics, there is no gap at all!) cant wait to see the pics! im sure it looks really really nice on black box! |
The fitment is perfect; its the seal on the passenger side which sits slightly higher than the car body. Approx 4 inches at the top.
I understand what you mean with the click - after pulling and installing the lights you get used to the click! Daytime running you get plenty of admirers - it really has moved the age of the car forward. Set the lights up (pain in the but pull out / install each time you make an adjustment, but I suppose once you've done it, its done. As the lights are a projector reflector cut off is pronounced - used to it as the Evo has projector lights fitted. The original Porsche lights were good - are these better - difficult to say, just take some getting used to. I'm running Philips H1 Visionstreams for the drive / main beam and H7 Extreme Power for the fogs. Back to how they look - Enjoy!!!http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1346493264.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1346493289.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1346493316.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1346493333.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1346493350.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1346493371.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1346493388.jpg |
