I wore driving gloves and shoes with jeans and a long sleeve t-shrt for DE's up until I got my firesuit. I have wimpy desk job hands so the gloves keep my hands protected. I didn't think that driving shoes would matter much until I got a pair. The shoes really improve the feel of the pedals giving me much more feedback than any type of regular shoe.

I've got a couple of pairs of Piloti shoes that I wear everyday, but for AXing, I wear Vans hi-top skateboard shoes. The Vans stick better to the Omp aluminum pedal overs that I use. The Pilotis slide all over the place, but are a great all day walking shoe. Go figure...
I'vegot a pair of Ringers gloves that I use AXing. Gloves are a must when the sweat starts!
