shoes and gloves
What do you wear for DE and AX? For my first DE this past weekend, I used some borrowed gloves and light hiking shoes. The gloves were definitely good, especially as the day wore on and my hands were sweating, and I can see that having proper driving shoes would be beneficial.

I wore driving gloves and shoes with jeans and a long sleeve t-shrt for DE's up until I got my firesuit. I have wimpy desk job hands so the gloves keep my hands protected. I didn't think that driving shoes would matter much until I got a pair. The shoes really improve the feel of the pedals giving me much more feedback than any type of regular shoe.

I've got a couple of pairs of Piloti shoes that I wear everyday, but for AXing, I wear Vans hi-top skateboard shoes. The Vans stick better to the Omp aluminum pedal overs that I use. The Pilotis slide all over the place, but are a great all day walking shoe. Go figure...
I'vegot a pair of Ringers gloves that I use AXing. Gloves are a must when the sweat starts! |
Gloves and shoes re definitely necessary, but I'm cheap. so I use Topsiders, very good grip and feel on the pedals, and a pair of full finger bicycling gloves. Works great.

Well I did ordered these Brooks Brothers driving moccasin (with the roll over heels) for casual use... otherwise it's a pair of Puma Speed Cat.

What I'm liking about the Puma shoes is that I can at least try them on before I buy without having to drive a couple of hours to a trackside shop. I know I should have something more appropriate than my hiking shoes :o
For gloves I guess I'll just take my chances with online ordering, even though I know glove fit is often an issue for me. Any brands that are garbage or had serious issues? |
I've got a pair of Mechanix gloves w/ suede palms and they are waaay too slick on the leather steering wheel. Leather on leather seems to be better.

Puma high cats for me and I don't use gloves.
On a separate note, definitely jeans and short sleeve shirt even in 100 deg weather. |
