I don't know where those oil numbers come from, but that's about what an oil change costs around me. Doing it yourself is: figure 9 to 10 quarts of synthetic at $5 a quart plus $25 for oil filter/ring from the dealer, throw in some sales tax: about $75.

I bought 9 quarts of Mobile 1 0W/40 at Advanced auto in Delaware (no tax) for $4.50 per quart for $40.50. The filter and crush ring should cost around $18 so I am looking at under $60 for an oil change with the right oil and filter.

+ I get the satisfaction of doing it myself.

I will need to get a new pan that holds the 9 quarts so add on another $15 for the first time.

Also, please communicate without the explitives. We Porsche owners are better than that.

Go buy your oil at Walmart. You can get the 5 quart jugs for like $23.00 each. Then order your OEM filter and crush ring from Suset Imports for $12.04 and .22 respectively. It'll end up costing you under $60.00 to do it yourself.

yea, for that price u got 3 years worth of oil change.

thats the same as paying a dealer to change your air filter, put air in your tires, maybe get one of those pine airfresheners from Pdeler for $50 a piece while you at it

I have never seen 0W40 at Walmart in my area? They only carry 5w40 and 10w40.

alright i'll definitely try to diy with some friends. i have found some diy's scattered around the forum but they all seem to be very different in how they approach it and what they say is required. is there a clear diy up with photos of like almost every step? i understand i have to order some special porsche wrench too? and if i recall suncoast is a porsche dealer in OR right?

Over on the auction site you can find good deals on oil filters/o-rings in bulk: 4 or around $40; 6 for around $60, etc. Advance, Walmart, etc can order the oil(0-w40) and sell it to you at their nice cheap price. Have fun keeping the drain plug out of the oil bucket. I've managed to pitch mine in on the last two oil changes

I change my oil every 5k-6k miles or so because of how hard I drive it. The first time around I changed it myself, which cost about $75 and took me an hour and a half because I was figuring a lot of stuff out (like how to jack a car up on all four corners correctly).

After that I decided to take it to my local mechanic. They charge $100 (less if I bring in my own oil), and they are just much more efficient than I am. The extra $25 is worth it, in my opinion.

But I do highly suggest you do it yourself at least the first time around. It'll help you get to know your car more intimately

I have never seen the oW-40 M1 in the jugs at WM, although that is possible. The price at my WM is usually $5.99 for the M1 Euro.

Guys, think about it this way. Most typical vehicles should have the oil changed every three months or so, at about $25.00 per change you are looking at a $100.00 a year. So isn't paying around $125.00 a year for our beloved porsches worth it. I think so. Just my opinion.

I pay $114 for an oil change in P-dealership in Barrington, IL. I have paid as low as $66 this past fall when I supplied my own oil, since I wanted to try Red Line 5W40.
