Yes the Porsches are not holding value like they used to.

I was on a BMW board last night and a guy had a '99 911 listed for sale on the classifieds. He had not sold it and was getting feedback why.

Someone actually posted saying the Boxster had ruined the 911 value for you guys.

I wouldn't use "ruined" but the poster was right in the sense that the Boxster -- being a much better bang/$ proposition than the 911 -- uncovered how overpiced the 911 really have been all along.

For instance, today a new 295hp 3.4L mid-engine Box is still about $30k cheaper than an uglier 325hp (?) 3.6L rear-engine 911 convertible, with exactly the same interiors and quality of workmanship -- and that's simply ridiculous.

The real issue with a '99 911 in the resale market is twofold.

1-This generation of 911 is currently out of favor. Folks like the 993 for the purists and the 997 because it is simply a better car.

The 996 in the middle is now feeling the strain, price-wise.

The '99 986s are the worst values right now. These early models had many many quality issues and many buyers are simply adverse to that year.

The 911s should be getting an HP increase to about 380 for the S models and I'm not sure what for the regular models.

I adore 911s. I wouldn't say they're ugly in any way, not even 996s.

The 996 prices are dropping but like other Porsches in the past the prices will Plateau into a range where its slightly out of reach for the average person. This is the advantage of owning a now much more reliable Porsche, for the right price it will attract a first time Porsche owner. Can't really say that about other more exclusive brands because the costs of fixing their high mileage models scares off 1st time buyers who can't afford a new version. That 1st Time Porsche buyer then becomes the guy Who buys a second and third Porsche.

as time passes you'll see certain well maintained and low mileage 996's start to gain value. I think the 2002-2004 996 will best fill this resurgence. The Turbos and GT3/2 at the sharp end, kinda like the more popular 928's.
If Porsche sticks with the round head lights on the 911's, the fried egg and Turbo head light Porsches could become historical as an icon of when Porsche went from nearly bankrupt boutique to profitable VW-partner, as well as having a different look from all the other VW looking 911's of the last 50 years.

I do not like the red center console, but everything else looks great - and it comes with the bumper-to-bumper 2 year warrantee!

With only 7500 miles on the clock, I say that is an attractive buy. I was looking at a new Cayman S in the mall yesterday while waiting for the wife to try on pregnant people clothes. I think the sticker price on the new Cayman is about the same as the buy-it now price on this 911 turbo. Hmmm, if I were in the market for another car, I would probably have to bid on this turbo…

If you think that 7K miler is a good deal, wait another year and watch how much a better deal it will become. That's the beauty of these cars, they are rarely driven daily, even rarer on the track...all while the value drops and drops and drops.
Yet they are still maybe the most reliable 911s ever made(true dry sump).
It pays do some research on Rennlist, there seem to be some more coveted 996 Turbo years.

Tell us the coveted years, lol. All I know of is the x50 option, and the turbo S, which might be the same thing, im no expert.
