I think I found my next car !

I can't believe you can pick up an 911 Turbo for under $60k :

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/searchresults.jsp?num_records=&search_type=both&distance=25&address=60195&style_flag=1&make=POR&model=911TURBO&make2=&start_year=1999&end_year=2007&min_price=0&max_price=60000&transmission=&engine=&drive=&doors=&fuel=&max_mileage=&color=&keywords_display=&sort_type=priceDESC&body_code=0&certified=&advanced=&default_sort=priceDESC&keywordsrep=&keywordsfyc=

Let's see, trade in the Boxster, the Benz, and the Harley

( I think I will still need another $20k )

Nick

Hi,

Something's askew here when the '02 Carrera 2 listed just below it, from the same Dealer, w/ 12k more mi. is just $2k less than the '02 Turbo. That Turbo must have an accident history or something to be priced in the range of a Carrera 2...

Nick, make a tight deal, sell the Box outright to maximize your profit and finance in the neighborhood of $33k. That's like Mustang GT money. Easy.

You know how it is... you "mentally" get in the market for a new car, and then it's just innocent browsing..

Which leads to thinking of ways you can get the car...

And then eventually you end up w/ it one way or another and the whole cycle starts over.

Happens to me anyhow, lol.

On the other hand...
1. Better to get it now. Much harder to justify an expensive toy after the kids come.
2. Turbo/GT3 engines are much more reliable/robust than the M96 engine -- so less potential worries.

Funny thing. I was just looking at 911 Turbos on AutoTrader yesterday myself and noticing how many nice ones are below $60k. I even think I saw a couple CPOed in the mid $60k area.

I dunno. More power is always nice, but my toy car has to be a convertible and the Turbo converts don't look too appealing -- prefer the Boxster look much more. Add to that the mid-engine advantages, and we may have a wash here. Or until the next visit of the rascally power devil in my head...

Z.

I've read that the brain is incapable of recognizing the difference between fantasy and reality. If you simply daydream about an accomplishment or acquisition, the brain begins to plan strategy to make it happen. Daydream enough and the brain's effort increases exponentially. With a little stimulation, the brain will work on achieving your goal 24/7 until it comes to fruition.

..hopefully Nick's divorce attorney's brain will be working overtime as well when he shows up with that Turbo...

IDEA!

Instead of selling everything and losing 30k still for the turbo,

3.6l or 3.8l engine swap from roock motor sports!!!!!!!!!!!!

Someone on here said they did it for just 13k total including labor.

Not bad at all, all things considered!!!!!!!

You keep the convertibleness, you keep the Boxsterness, and most importantly, you keep the money-ness.

You guys are the best !

Bavarian Motorist,

Turbo Cabriolet is gonna run $80k - $140k

If my Boxster implodes, engine swap will be first on the list.

unklekraker,

My buddy and I are always emailing each other cars all day at work - my wife said I am not allowed to talk to him anymore

z12358,

I'm got that rascally power devil in my head too

Griz,

If a divorce attorney get's involved after 3 months of marriage, I'll be driving a Yugo cause she will take half of everything. Never get a southern woman mad !

I promised my wife before we got married no more cars for 4 more years. In the last 3 years since we met I have had 5 cars and 2 Harley's. I bought a new Harley in 2005, and last year I traded in my 2004 Jag for the Box and bought the Benz.

New plan - brand new 2010 Boxster for my 40th birthday...

Nick

I remember when i was so into trucks and muscle car...Auto Trader and Diablo magazine are like my own personal Bible..I carry it everywhere with me, reading new issue cover to cover and then one time we went camping with my friend and my wife brought all the magazines that's been in the garage and behind the seats and throw it all in the campfire...whew, thank God for internet, no more magazine to read and for her to burn not unless she's bringing the keyboard and the mouse with her...hehehehehehehe!

Yes the Porsches are not holding value like they used to.
I wonder if it has to do with lower maintenance costs making the
car more accessible to a larger pool of buyers.
The appealing thing to me about the Turbo is the use of the
a true dry sump engine. Unlike the non-GT 911's, the Turbo uses
the GT1 engine block used in racing.
So imho its a much better value than C4 or C2.
If you can get a Turbo with an extended warranty you have the best of both worlds: a true exotic under $70K with a guarantee.
