How to make the boxster more Manly?!

Hey guys and gals,

I was just reading the M3 thread on these forums and the topic of chick roadsters came up and how the boxster unfortunately has a "soft" reputation...

So what mods can/are done to this car to change that rep?

My thoughts would be 18" wheels
Xenons
Sideskirts... or full body kit
lowered?

What else?

docdyh 12-26-2006 11:48 AM

OEM aerokit 2 including the rear wing..seems most don't complete the aerokit wind probably due to cost...you will have a unique car but will cost you atleast a couple grand total just for parts....

unklekraker 12-26-2006 11:53 AM

The first thing you need to modified is the way you're thinking are. No matter how much mods you do on the boxster, if at the back of your head there's still that small voice saying "It's not a manly car"...you are going to be in a long ride of slippery mods :D

IMHO..quit hanging around to the forum or people that will say your car is not manly..hehehehehehe!

all the mods you have mentioned are pretty darn good. just the wheels alone could make a big difference and the rest could follow but the lowering part not really sure...

you know Iatros when I hear someone say something like this I know right away I'm dealing with someone with virtually no experience of driving a car on a track or someone who has never really had any sort of high performance driving instruction.
Some of the most knowledgable sports car people I know have had or currently own Boxsters. All kinds of people, guys who own GT3's, M3's, Lotus, Lambo, Ferrari you name it. But not just guys who buy these cars and never take them out of the garage! I'm talking about guys who will spend big big money on a sports car and then spend even more on track modifications. Well, they all say the same thing, for a driver, its a true "slot car" superior handling to most of the sports cars you will see at the track on any given day, including the M3 (and its inferior brakes).

Many 'posers' don't understand the concept of a roadster. They think they are ALL chick cars. Some hard core enthusiasts will tell you the purest sporst car is the roadster because its the most impractical and made solely for driving pleasure.

Plain and simple: The Boxster is the roadster of the Porsche brand.
And its the roadster all others compare their cars to. I've seen this recently in two different car magazines where they were reviewing the Z4 and the Turbo Solstice and decided to compare both against the Boxster as the yardstick to measure by.

Sports cars come in many flavors: roadsters, GT's, coupes, exotics
people who don't understand this should not be listened to.
They wouldn't know trail braking from trail mix.

Depending on who you want to impress. For the guys spreading the "soft" reputation you can never go wrong with sticking some bullhorns at the front. They'll be really impressed and will stop the rumours immediately, in awe of the unquestionable manlines presented to them. For the ladies, not so much. The real classy ones fall for flames painted behind the wheel-wells. Or so I hear.

Z.

The last time I looked, my car had no sexual organs.

Think of the small minded thinking that it takes to think that way.

Not that I've been too concerned with having a manly car or not, I've put speed-stripes on all my cars; SAAB, Miata, and the Boxster.

djomlas 12-26-2006 01:43 PM

and speed striped would be what?

MNBoxster 12-26-2006 01:46 PM

Hi,

Calling a car, any car, a Chick car is the equivalent of Gorilla-like Chest Thumping. Supposedly to bolster one's manhood by showing what a Macho Car Guy they are. In reality, it is often in inverse proportion to what the guy knows about cars in general, or at least the specific cars they cite.

I once read that a Chick Car is defined as any car which came out as a Barbie accessory - that these cars were selected by Mattel because of their appeal to women.

Barbie has had several cars over the years like the Austin Healey 3000, the Ford Mustang, the Meyers Manx Dune Buggy, the VW Beetle, the Jeep CJ5, the Chevy Corvette, the Mazda Miata, and most recently the Mini-Cooper and the Porsche Boxster. The Boxster is in pretty good company in that line-up.

If these are Chick Cars, it seems that a lot of women have a better understanding and appreciation of fine automotive machinery than many guys do...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

SD987 12-26-2006 02:02 PM

Although not a fan of the look on its merits alone, I think that black rims on a car make it look more "manly".

djomlas 12-26-2006 02:20 PM

if i were to call any car 'girly' it would be an Eclipse.
any time i see a guy driving that joke i just lagh, and then there are those that 'mod' them w wings and fartcans hahaha

I hate to state the obvious, but most of the guys on this site ARE big wusses. Probably half are gay (not that there's anything wrong with that) and the rest would rather go see Yanni in concert than watch a football game. I'm probably the only exception, and I've mounted a set of elk horns on my grill to differentiate me from these girly men.

super66 12-26-2006 03:00 PM

one could say the corvette is a chick car, every time they redesign them they have women in mind.....that's why there is a big difference getting in and out of a new corvette and earlier models....the 94's suck, my dads old 88, forget about it, get a crane....chevy wanted more female buyers....paid attention to these design concerns, chick car??

I was thinking of a gun rack on the roll bar, just having a hell of a time with the mod....

RandallNeighbor how was it you did that again? :D

silverboxter 12-26-2006 03:44 PM

C'mon! Everybody knows that if you want to make a car "manly," all you have to do is put a Playboy air-freshener on the rear-view mirror! ; )

Paul 12-26-2006 03:44 PM

I agree it's a chick's car, I never have trouble finding one to sit in the passenger's seat.

That said, 18 to 25 year old girls like my RED Audi TT even more....

UroTrash 12-26-2006 03:49 PM

Lord.

If you are trying to compensate for....shall we say...inadequacies, by all means pimp out the Box.

For that matter, why not just get a Hummer or Vette, that'll make a small man strut.

Personally, I don't buy cars for their p*nis-enlarging properties.

djomlas 12-26-2006 03:58 PM

i think that if you want to make a boxster better lookinf you should do this:
exhaust for better sound
wheels and some fat tires
lower it
tint the windows
black out the talights
deamber if not done already
out a black cap on and black some metallica LOL

and do that ricer lean while driving with one hand sitting all low :D

me personally, i dont think its a girly car, its just another porsche, and a very valuable porsche that IMO saved the company

Respectfully, that's pretty faint praise.

It's the Porsche that FINALLY got it's engine put in the proper place!

IMHO, it, along with the Cayman should be the premier cars of the brand, going forward.

blinkwatt 12-26-2006 04:37 PM

The best response when someone says "You drive a girl's car!" is simply "What do you drive?". Everyone who has made that comment swears their Civics,Integras,Mustangs,TT's,CRXs and Accord are no.1.......I see where the idea come from though, small car, small engine. It's fine, people poke fun at what they are jealous of.

FrayAdjacent 12-26-2006 05:05 PM

Manly it up? I think the Boxster is a fine sportscar as is. Sure, it has a reputation or stigma of being a 'hairdressers' car...

... but then, I don't care what other people think. When I lose them in fast turns without missing a beat... they can kiss my... dust.

Except, if you'll notice, this is my first post, and I don't actually have a Boxster yet. I found one I like and will probably be going to check it out on Friday. If all is well, I'll be pulling the trigger, and will have a Porsche not only as a project (1969 911 Targa in the garage), I'll have one as a daily driver, too.

RandallNeighbour 12-26-2006 05:13 PM

Travis, I don't need no gun rack. Just driving around and waiving my S&W 9mm around over my head seems to cause everyone to say, "That's a fine car you have there, SIR."

Ah, there are a few benefits to living in the great state of Texas.

Brucelee 12-26-2006 06:09 PM

Remember the Alamo!

Franco 12-26-2006 06:45 PM

After reading this thread i regret not getting the beetle and with the money i saved
i could have gotten a P...........n..........s enlargement, sh...............t there goes my
New Years resolution and to think I DIDN'T KNOW ENOUGH TO KNOW I DIDN'T KNOW
ENOUGH. :D

Forget it I'm getting a HUMMER with BULL HORNS that'll be more manly :chicken:

You got that right, Randall. I need to get off my butt and get my CHL. The ONLY drawback I can really see to my impending purchase of a Boxster is that a couple (if not MOST) of my rifle cases won't fit in the trunks. Oh well, I could get a roof rack or rear rack to deal with that.

Topless 12-26-2006 08:11 PM

In Texas you could paint it desert camo and mount a 20mm on the hood. :D Then those Ford F350 4X4 diesel rigs would get outta your way in a hurry.

cartagena 12-26-2006 09:49 PM

I have had two people make negative comments like "why didn't you buy a 911?"

Both of these guys ride the BUS.

People who own nice cars will almost never make a negative comment.

yup, its the roadster to beat, and im a happy roadster owner :)

its nice to own something that every comany out there comares their car to

wild1poet2 12-27-2006 04:06 AM

That's like the pot calling the kettle black. M3?? Any BMW?? LOL They're lubricated with estrogen.

I've never heard that about any Porsche. Although I'm sure the young V8 muscle car guys would dis any car that way. Should hear what they say about Beemers and their drivers.

The Probe was a chick car...LOL...hence the name

I've heard the Miata(old body shape) described as a chick car. Z28 and Trans Ams with slush drive are often viewed as chick cars. Any of the front wheel drive convertibles are chick cars. The SUV has become the new soccer mom vehicle(up here in the great northeast).

Porsche club members could start wearing leather vests with club patches on the back("colors"). They could travel in huge packs and terrorize citizens on the roads and bust up a few bars. We could use nicknames like Mungo and Grizzly. And steal the manpurses of BMW drivers and run off with their sexually frustrated women. :-)

RandallNeighbour 12-27-2006 05:19 AM

We're well on our way... we already have a forum member named Grizzly!

Perfectlap 12-27-2006 06:01 AM

There are a few "chick cars" and none of these are sports cars. A chick car is not a fabrication or a delusion the car companies have identified certain models in their line ups that appeal overhwhelmingly to muchachas. They gear the marketing towards women with 'girlie' brochures. I also suspect there is a fair bit of gay research as well because the gay segment are rapidly growing in profile as a consumer group with rapidly rising incomes.

The beetle is the best example of a car that appeals to both these groups. I've personally known about 8 or 9 people who have owned this car in all its iterations (convertible, turbo, orange with orange wheels, etc) and all were female or gay or both.

other chick cars: Mazda Mx3, VW Cabriolet, BMW M3, Celica, Jeep LIberty, maxima.

p.s.

"The Boxster is a hairdresser's car"

LOL

That's funny because Emilio my hair dude drives a 911 Cabriolet (tip).

p.s.s.
one of the cars I listed is not a chick car, just having fun (just a glorified 3 series).

UroTrash 12-27-2006 07:18 AM

Dang!

I'm a happy Miata owner.

Then I find out that they are considered girly cars.......

Then I buy a Boxster, and now I find out IT'S considered a girl car......

I'm reconsidering my plans for that yellow Beetle Convert.

Perfectlap 12-27-2006 07:24 AM

Miata and Boxster are in the same boat.
Both seen as chick cars by posers yet on any given given weekend at any given grassroots racing event you will see many more examples of both than you will see mustangs, iroc camaros, most mercs and bmws and 'tricked out' civics, supras and eclipse.

Inversely. Generally. But not inevitably.

Trust me, it's a professional opinion. I deal with manhood.

The weaker the ego, the bigger the truck, gun, cowboy hat, etc etc etc.

Franco 12-27-2006 07:33 AM

I wish for more chicks on this Forum :D

bmussatti 12-27-2006 08:12 AM

If you want to make a car more "manly"...just don't paint it pink. Other than that, everything else is fair game accross all genders.

David_J 12-27-2006 08:34 AM

Add these to the Boxster

That should make it more manly.
