2004 boxster 986 radio. No Bose but has fibre optics.

Hi I’ve had a really hard time fitting in a radio in my car. It’s a 2004 boxster 986 base model, with no bose, but still has a fibre optic cable. Bought the car a month ago, its current radio system is broken. So the PCM unit that’s currently in the car, works great for about 20-30mins. After driving for a while it’ll turn off and just keep loading up with the Porsche logo over and over. Sometimes will turn back on into the PCM menu but no sound will come out. Then a few hours later it works as normal. I’m hoping this is a problem with actual PCM unit not the amp or something as it powers back on and everything so it still has power.

So I bought some cheaper Ali express unit, and (I also bought a MOST decoder, it connects the fibre optics) as I preferred the design. After it installing had a few complications, power had to be taken from the fuse box. And there was no sound still and it didn’t fit inside properly and it was very loose. So I’ve now returned the unit.

So where I need the help is I wanna try again but with a better radio from pioneer or Sony or something. So what do I need.
In the list I’ve got

1. The actual new unit.
2. The decoder.
3. A fascia kit.

I’m from the uk so can’t use crutchfields. Any help is much appreciated.

Metra makes the fascia kit and wiring harnesses. You can get those on Amazon if you can't get them from Crutchfield. This site might be helpful: https://www.bergvillfx.com/products/continental-cd7416ub-or they sell a modern radio that matches the original aesthetic and while I have not dealt with them, i have heard from others that their customer service is good.

When I put an Atoto android based unit in my Boxster, there was an issue with the power wires not being right and I had to swap it on the harness wiring before it worked right. It's been going strong for over a year with no issues.
