Quick update. I finally found a good way to justify the purchase of a Durametric cable/software (enthusiast version) and try to fix this myself. I spend a couple of hours yesterday and followed the instructions on this post to try to fix the poor connection that was causing the airbag light to come on. Happy to report that the light is now off after putting everything back together and going for a short drive with and without passenger in the seat. Fingers crossed but at the moment it looks like it worked. Thank you very much for this post, it might have saved me a good chunk of money!
